Binnie has gone to the "Dark Side"........ Reminds me there is a recent interview of Matt Hall on aircrew interviews. He could have got a posting to fly F111s but said nah and waited a year for the F18 as the idea of having to sit side by side in a cockpit didn’t align with dreams of owning the sky aka a P51. Part 2 is about his time in the USAF flying the F15E including a combat tour in the Middle East and then the Red Bull racing. Also interesting.

A little birdie tells me some great news. The restoration of the Southern Cross replica is close to being finished, with only some electrical work now remaining, and they hope to do a taxi run at Wings Over Illawarra (27th & 28th Nov)! Fantastic!

Wings Over Illawarra Airshow - Shellharbour Airport - 27 & 28 November 2021 Display listing from website. Sat to Sun mirror displays except for the Spitfire Mk VIII not listed at 14:50 on Sunday. Hopefully the rain and wind gods have had their fun lately and we get some great weather. I suspect the Hornets will be based at the airfield as they usually do but surprised if the the F35 lands my guess it flies down from Willy, displays, heads back?

Temora Aviation Museum have sent out details of their planned flying program for their Aircraft Showcase this coming Saturday 20 November 2021.
AIRCRAFT SHOWCASE 20 NOVEMBER DRAFT PROGRAM
Please note: Draft Program is subject to change due to aircraft serviceability. 1000 Museum Opens 1000 Flightline Walk 1020 Winging It with AVM Alan Clements AM 1130 Canberra / Birddogs / Cessna 0-2 (Vietnam) 1200 Tiger Moth / Ryan 1230 Winjeels / CT-4 1300 Hudson / Boomerang 1330 P-40 Kittyhawk 1400 Wirraway / Harvard / BT-13 1430 Spitfire MkVIII / P-40 Kittyhawk 1500 F/A-18 Classic Hornet 1600 Museum Closed
Looks to be a good line-up with the first public display for the Canberra opening proceedings and a Classic Hornet display to close out the day, with plenty of interest in between.
My only concern at present is the current weather forecast from Thursday out to early next week is for increasing chance of rain, with 70% chance of rain, 1 to 6mm rain, possible thunderstorm on the Saturday. I will be keeping a close eye on the forecasts and the Temora Airport weathercams in the lead up to Saturday.

Lots of activity on the ramp at Temora this morning. A number of the Temora based aircraft including the Ryan, Wirraway, Boomerang, Cessna O-2, Hudson, Spitfire VIII and Canberra as well as a couple of visitors, P-40, BT-13 and Winjeel out of the hangars and being prepped for a practice session.
Currently, weather looks to be certainly marginal, with increasing low and heavy cloud cover. The closest rain radar is showing increasing bands of light to moderate rain showers approaching from the west. The weather forecast for Temora tomorrow is certainly not looking good at this stage as a major weather system moves into south eastern Australia.
The civil works on the airfield - drainage - which required the closure of the north-south runway has been completed. They had a road sweeper truck running up and down the runway yesterday cleaning it in preparation for reopening. This morning the cones blocking the taxiways and the runway along with the big 'X's on the runway have been removed and it is ready for use.

Saw some good footage of the Hornet display at Temora so hope show was OK in the marginal conditions. Plenty of vapour in that moist air at least. How fitting Easty got to fly the honours in A21-08. Bring on Illawarra and the Magpie bird. Hopefully Easty flies there too and the weather behaves.

Great footage. Easty really is a very good display pilot. Nice and low and tight and not miles away from the crowd like some of the displays there.

Went to Saturday’s Wings over Illawarra show and despite showers and a cool strong southerly blowing the day was well worth it. A ticket scanning issue slowed down entry also. The weather delayed the start for an hour. The warbirds lineup was cut considerably with many weathered in at their home bases. Was great to see the Corsair and Avenger fly as well as the P51, Kittyhawk and Wirraway. The F35 show was cut due the weather at Williamtown (not Shellharbour). It flew today however. Also the four ship hornet formation display and ground attack was canned (both days) due to - I believe - COVID as the pilots flew 4 machines down from Tindal to Willy this week but they jumped straight on a Learjet and went back to NT. So all this disappointment was made up by the fantastic displays (2) by Easty in the one Hornet at the show. Note he few A21-08 on Saturday and then swapped it for A21-44 on Sunday. (He does have form for breaking jets at these events lol). Advertised as last public displays of the Classic before they are retired next week. Easty also will end his fast jet flying when he takes the jet home Monday or at least that’s what the commentary said. Low, close and loud and grins all round. 😁. Ando’s commentary was top notch as per usual. There was also an english fellow didn’t catch his name sharing the mike which I thought worked well.

Nice touch also. Easty's father present to see him fly. I like the 77sqn "grumpy monkey" cap Mr Malu Easthope, father of Group Captain Jason Easthope, comes to watch his son fly the F/A-18A Classic Hornet aircraft, at the Wings Over Illawarra Aishow 2021, in New South Wales. Official ADF image

Thanks mcmaster. Saturday was a nightmare due weather as was evident with the constant frantic activity to chop and change the program almost (it seemed) every five minutes to match the prevailing weather and what could fly. Ross Bowman "Bunga" was shattered that he could not fly the F.35 on Saturday but was good enough to come down and be interviewed about it. Made up for that on Sunday despite the overcast. Rain threatened all day Sunday but we managed to get everything in and the Temora troupe arrived through the mist for their displays. TOT was perfect and nice to see the Canberra even though its display was modified to suit the weather. My co-commentator was Sqn Ldr Neil Whitehead - a great mate - former RAF on E.3s and RAAF E.7s. I have had the pleasure of commentary with him on many previous occasions. His daughter Sara is also in RAAF and was co-pilot on the 350 Kingair both days. Eastie's Hornet performance both days was fantastic and I feel very privileged to have been able to "do" the commentary of the Hornet's very last public display with Wg Cdr Paul Simmons "Simmo" who is a former Hornet display pilot and the man responsible for most of the format of the ultimate Hornet display routine. Is interesting that I saw Eastie's final public Hornet display Sunday and also his "farewell salute" to NSW at Temora when he and three others beat the living hell out of Temora in the RNZAF A.4s during their last flight in Australia
