I hope to meet some of the forum members. Dave, is anything arranged in that regard. I arrive about 11am on the Friday and going straight to Omaka. Teresa and I are Gold Passing too. Usually there is a gaggle of Forum members up at the top on the right end (as you face the flight line and about where the Airshow commentary box is). Who else? Errol? Lumpy I think you are? Cheers Baz

I'll be around, but will be with Mum, brother, and sis-in-law. So not so available for hanging out at the bar.

One thing I have learned over the years is 75% of the people who go to the MAC bar after each day's show are WONZ Forum members and readers. The percentage will probably be higher this year without any foreigners visiting.

Unfortunately, for the first time since they started I won't be attending this year either. I can't drive there and my injury means I couldn't stand around for three days nor climb the steps in the grandstand. I'll have to rely on you fellas posting lots of photos Bugger!

Sad to hear Nev. Is that injury recent, since you visited here a couple of months back?

Yeah as Dave said the Aero Club bar seems to be a magnet for Forum members. I'll probably have an Auster hat or Full Noise hat on. Depending on weather I have a Mosquito T shirt to wear too!

Anything pointy from the RAAF looks unlikely - But an out and return from the transport wing or a P-8 like Masterton ? USAF will most likely be in CHCH for Winfly - you never know!
I see 100 excotic aircraft is advertised - from memory it used to be 80! so maybe a few aircraft we have not seen before. Might not be any big headliners but hoping there will be plenty of small surpises - and even if they dont display I love to see many of the classics fly.

Since 1967, Winfly has been the transition period between the winter and summer seasons. It’s when a quick succession of planes deliver a host of new people to the station in early August, followed by no additional flights for about two months. It allowed the newly delivered support staff enough time to prepare the station before the majority of researchers and workers begin to arrive in early October for “mainbody.”

The USAF winter resupply of McMurdo - Winter Fly - they make a few C-17 flights in early September to keep thing ticking over till the summer season. If Masterton can get a B-52! If Omaka did have a big highlight you would imagine it would have been shouted from the rooftops - but might be some funky marketing stategy to keep things top the last minute?

There is at least one B-52 taking part in Talisman Sabre!

He added that the RAAF were looking forward to being back in 2023 with a special surprise, and there would be a rare showing of the RNZAF P3 Orions, which were coming to the end of their service “If all goes to plan, the first one to retire will display at the show on the Saturday and visitors will witness it's very last flight,” Orphan said
