Good grief, they're pensioning off the Orions already? There's three years till their replacements get here isn't there?

Are we about to start having our trainers train our air/ground crews? In which case crew availability will drop (even further). rnzaf.proboards.com/post/277262/threadFrom June 2019 Training start Feb 2020 1st aircraft delivery April 2023 IOC July 2023 FOC 2025

I wonder if that will be the one for the Air Force Museum? To be dismantled at Woodbourne and trucked to Wigram in bits is the latest I heard.

You'd think it would be easier to do that at Harewood or have they forgotten about the tunnels south of Kaikoura?

Has construction started yet on the new building for the Orion and Hercules? Or will it sit at Woodbourne till that project of completed? When I interviewed Brett Marshall for the WONZ Show he said they'd selected '01 of both fleets to be the aircraft preserved. I wonder how many hours this Orion that is retiring has flown now.

My understanding is NZ4203 will retire to WB after the airshow, but it's not destined for Museum. That will still be '01.

I was discussing this with Don Simms and he said they reckon it would be feasible but would need a nice strong NorWest day. Only concern might be the Orion as they don't have anti-skid brakes like the Herc. Man that would be a sight to see!

There is zero chance you would put an Orion into a grass strip, let alone a short one like Wigram. I would highly doubt they would do it with the C-130 either, especially with buildings/houses at each end.

They can have six attempts to get it right Deane, and five with the Herc. Some of the houses should be cleared by the time they get the landing to stick.

Perhaps they could temporarily close he road called "The Runway" in the wigram estate and use that as an Orion has landed on that before for the opening of the museum in 1987, along with a B727

I can remember doing two trips down there when I was at 5 Sqn. One was for Wings and Wheels in 1992.

Back to the airshow: Methinks it's gonna be a cold one. Bring your Winter woolies Yep, will be checking out my thermals, thermos etc for Friday night. Actually, I've been thinking about getting a balaclava for walking the dog on windy evenings, could be handy.
