The following information has been forwarded to me and comes from the No. 5 Squadron RNZAF Association's newsletter.
Saturday, 21 Jan 2023 - 5 Squadron Family Day.
This will proceed as planned, with 5 Squadron Association Members welcome. Please lodge your interest in attending with Secretary@5sqnassn.org.nz. We will collate a list and arrange access tp Base with the main gate. The Squadron will be running their usual programme of flights for Sponsors and serving family members, and may even run a raffle for a flight or two for guests. There will be another aircraft available as a static display, and the flight deck trainer will also be open for viewing.
For those of you that have ordered and paid for commemorative Port, it will be available for pick up at the Family Day, unless delivery has been arranged prior.
The Walker Lounge bar will be open from 11am - 5pm on the sports field and their will be food and an open bar available.
I'll confirm Main Gate times when I have them, but plan on 11am -5pm. Your family are very welcome.
For those who have asked, there is no planned/ official social activity that evening for Squadron Association Members.
Tuesday, 24 Jan 2023 - 3 Ship Orion Formation Flight.
Flight plan tbc.
On completion at WP, one of the aircraft will depart to WB to be retired. The final two will remain at WP until the last day of P3 Operations at the end of January.
Weather-alternate days for the 3-ship formation are Wednesday and Thursday.
Saturday, 18 February 2023 - Hangar Farewell
This will be a Base-wide event running from 11am-5pm. 5 Squadron Association Members are welcome.
This will be a good opportunity to meet and greet, catch up with mates and share a yarn or two.
Saturday, 18 March 2023 - Retirement Function
This will be a formal dinner (venue TBC).
Places for this event will be limited so early booking will be important.
A registration of interest will be posted shortly. The registration will ask you to list your name and, if there is the opportunity, would you bring a partner.
Registration will be open to all current and past Squadron members and, depending on initial uptake, CO 5 will make a decision on the availability of spaces for Partners at the end of January.
If you had already paid for the anniversary that was cancelled last year and have not been refunded, that money can go towards your ticket to this event.
Change of Command for 5 Squadron will be near the end of April 2023 at Ohakea.
I'll send more details and registration forms as we have them.
Please keep an eye on emails, our website www.5sqnassn.org.nz/ and any other social media connections you use to stay in touch.
Obviously, there is a lot going on and a lot to organise in a short time. I'm not guaranteeing that things won't change - when do things ever stay the same?
We've got an exciting few months ahead, so lets get hold of our contacts and make sure we meet up at one or more of these events next year.
