Story about topdressers supplying Hawkes Bay farms www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-today/news/cyclone-gabrielle-topdressing-planes-get-crucial-supplies-to-hawkes-bay-farmers/With no road access out of rural areas such as Patoka, Rissinagton, Tutira, and others, Rural Air Work and the TUMU Group have been working to get supplies out to some of the region’s most isolated farming communities. Over the past few days tonnes of supplies have been packed into fertiliser planes and delivered. Along with food, beer and basic supplies, the planes have been dropping off generators, water pumps, fuel, fencing for stock proofing as well as cat and dog food. Following Cyclone Gabrielle the TUMU Group, which put $100,000 into a fund for the horticulture and agriculture sector, has been paying for the Rural Air Work flights. ... Others have also been donating money through the TUMU Group’s fund to support agriculture and horticulture after Cyclone Gabrielle. Anyone wanting to donate to the relief fund through the group’s charitable trust, The Evergreen Foundation, can do so here: forms.office.com/r/tb5mana1MW

Anyone know where the C-27s are going into? Are they places Hercs can’t go? Just wondering if this is a good demo of the utility a C-27/C295 sized aircraft offers, and that it might be considered seriously for EMAC with modular MPA suites, allowing a dual role.

FR24 shows them going to Napier yesterday, then to CHC today.

Looking at a FB post for 'Tairawhiti Aviation Love & Air Spotting' there's a view (dated 15th February 2023) of 1 x 40Sqn C-130 & 2 x 42Sqn KA350 on the ground @ Gisborne... so good old 42Sqn is indeed out there but as always getting very little mention...the quiet achievers!

Saw a couple of C-27 take-offs from Whenuapai this morning, then later saw one down at Hastings on FR24. At the same time it was parked at Hastings there was a USAF C-17 going overhead down to CHC, and a USAF ski Herc off the coast heading in the opposite direction.

Taking in the damage In the aftermath of the disaster, King Air aircraft and SH-2G(I) helicopters flew over the damaged landscapes and broken roads around the North Island. The dramatic photographs taken on flights gave valuable information to officials on the ground. www.nzdf.mil.nz/news/taking-in-the-damage/

BTW, the RAAF C-27s went back home on Thursday and Saturday. I noticed at least one flight to Wairoa (mainly Whenuapai. WLG, CHC, NAP, GIS) but there may have been more that didn't show on FR24.

One flew over Cambridge on Thursday or Friday. I heard the unusual engine sound so looked at FR24 and it was showing as an RAAF C-27, but I looked out and we had pea soup fog so no chance of seeing it for real.
I am told a C-17 flew over Cambridge really low and in full view on Thursday too, I missed that.
