It would be good if they brought one to Wanaka to become a permanent display next to the Aussie Canberra and Lodestar.

I doubt that it'll be Super Hornets - most likely F-111s, in my opinion.

Rumour has it that the RAAF F-18s will be based out of Queenstown airport for the show... That would be pretty amazing, no doubt "mountainous terrain training" when applying for Aust defence dept approval ;D However I assume with with all the aspiring greenie celebs living in the hills around there - when they hear a few takeoffs and get on the phone to friends in Wellington - it'll be the last of that caper. BTW Don did the Skyhawks ever operate out of Queenstown?

No the Skyhawks never flew out of there as the runway was too short in those days. It has only recently (in the last 10 years or so) been extended for international flights. Macchis and Strikemasters did operate out of there though. The Macchis operated out of there for Warbirds Over Wanaka one year. Yes the noise will probably upset some of the locals but they will be well outnumbered by the rest of us who will be VERY pleased to have the sound of freedom reverberating around the mountains!

Amen to that! Its been about 12 years since I last saw a Hornet in the flesh, at Ohakea for an open day. I'm not a big jet fan - I think everyone here knows where my loyalties lie - but I still get a kick out of seeing other air forces' hardware on show and IN ACTION.

Re food stalls there will be a mix of food suppliers - businesses, community groups and commercial caterers Hi warbirdsbunny, welcome to the forum. There's a press release about the food stalls on page four of this thread, post number 49. Other than that I'm not sure any of us can tell more, so I guess you might have to contact the airshjow organisers for more info.

The Auckland DC-3 is going down on Thursday 1st April, and returning on the 5th. Considering picking up from Tauranga if enough pax. $950 return, includes GST, inflight meals and refreshments.
We will fly into Wanaka, and drop off gear and pax, then head over to Queenstown. The crew will be based there, and fly a shutttle each morning direct into Wanaka, returning each afternoon. $90 return each day. Contact Jessica and Eugenie for tickets - selling fast! 09 4791 378 0274 382 297 or flydc3@paradise.net.nz

I'm staying just a little bit down the Frankton Arm of the lake from the airport....opposite the Frankton Marina and just past the Shell service station. Last year when I was staying there after Classic Fighters @ Omaka, the RAAF Caribous were flying circuits from Queenstown Airport most mornings. When not flying, they were parked just across the other side of the fence from the Remarkables shopping centre.

Farmers plan charter plane for trip to the Wanaka WarbirdsBy ROB MAETZIG - Taranaki Daily News | 5:00AM - Wednesday, 10 March 2010A Taranaki couple is again organising a charter flight to Easter's Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow – and this time they hope the passengers won't have to push their plane.
Two years ago Finnerty Rd farmers Craig and Lisa Swan chartered a 50-seater Convair 580 plane to fly themselves and fellow airshow fans directly from New Plymouth to Wanaka.
Everything went well — until it was time to leave for the return trip to Taranaki.
The big plane was parked in a holding area on the grass at Wanaka aerodrome, and when everyone had climbed aboard the Convair had sunk so far down on its suspension that the pilots became worried that the propellers might touch the ground when they taxied over a small depression used to drain water away from the tarmac nearby.
But when the group found they would have to wait half an hour for a tractor to arrive to tow the 50-tonne plane through the depression, they all got out and pushed the Convair instead.
"It was kind of embarrassing but also funny watching everyone group up to push the large wheels on the bottom of the aircraft as these were the only areas we could push on," recalls Craig.
"Half the passengers were pushing — and the other half were taking photos of us. But it certainly gave us all something to talk about on the way home."
Now Craig and Lisa have chartered the plane again. They didn't intend repeating the exercise, but after receiving numerous calls from many of the 2008 passengers they have re-booked the plane from Auckland company Skylink, which sub-charters the Convairs from Air Chathams.
The 50-seater plane is already half full, with mainly people from the last trip and their friends wanting to go this time. Anyone wanting one of the remaining seats can contact Craig and Lisa on 06 764 8045. Cost of the return flight, plus tickets to the big airshow, on Saturday, April 03, is $830.www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/3427021/Farmers-plan-charter-plane-for-trip-to-the-Wanaka-Warbirds
