Yakka...Giovanni wasn't flying the Furio...it was Grant Benns from XFlight and AirNZ (even if the commentary team didn't know his employment details!) ...and rather than hit the $$$ water slide at the show, we opted for a quick dip on the way home.

Ahhh! Maclaren Falls. In my young stupid days, during a river rafting expedition when the dam was opened and the water level was up, I jumped off that bridge...

I had a good day- Our flightsim tent was a success. I would echo the concerns about lack of programme and also add that the layout of the stalls left a bit to be desired. When I booked 90% of the stalls were indicated as full but the situation on the day looked more like 50%.....it would have been nice to know this before hand as we would have benefitted by being 'closer to the action'- As it was, we were right down by the two rows of new hangars with a guy selling massage things behind us, Wairiki Polytech on one side and some childs toy stall on the other with empty sites all around...even people that knew we were there couldn't find us or couldn't be bothered walking to try and find us. So, next time it would be good to bunch the stalls more and try and put like with like so that people who are interested in a particular thing can consult a map and have a good idea where to find it and don't have to walk such great distances. Anyway, a couple of shots of the tent etc and the virtual tent I whipped up for FSX on Saturday. Real Sim

For a first major airshow organised by Andrew and his team I think they did an excellent job. Of course there will be a few hiccups there always is but everybody whinging on here about things like no program or things were to far away does not cure the problem.I'm sure Andrew would appreciate any constructive criticism you may wish to send him. I had a Gold Pass and yes the view from the top of the stand was brilliant. The service was 10/10 with food and drink delivered to you all day.Transport was provided to/ from the set aside carpark. I know it's were I'll be next time. Some photos to follow.

I know for a fact fury that the Classic Flyers team all read the forum, and our "whinging" is meant only as constructive criticism. You're right that for a first time the new team did produce a great airshow. But there were (like most large events) things that can be improved upon, and hopefully they'll take some of the comments made here onboard for next time. I for one have made many more positive comments than the glaringly obvious negatives with the show.

The SAA issues raised are largely our own doing, and I'm sorting out some changes there, the feedback on this thread has been very helpful to me as it provides an external viewpoint. I'm guessing the museum values feedback the same way. Constructive criticism is always useful.

Was there a Red Checkers display? Has the suspension been lifted?
While on the topic, what other RNZAF participation was there? I assume the Huey that I saw Saturday, but what else?

One of the checkers was getting married on the weekend and all the team were at that - so they wouldnt have come even if not grounded. Jim Rankin did bring one CT4 up so he could do the AvKiwi seminar.

Nice photos FuryFb11.... Did you intend to put the Catalina in the background of the M*A*S*H chopper dancing with the OH-6? Or was it just one of those happy accidents...?
From the looks of it, I reckon a Gold Pass might be "just the ticket" next time.

Which were the two hot air balloons used in the mornings?
They were still inflated when we were landing on Sunday morning, but had been packed away by the time we were delivered into the display area.

One of those happy accidents. It was my first time with a gold pass so could'nt compare with anywhere else but a couple of people I spoke to on the day said the service was better than most.

Really nice photos FuryFb11.
Did anyone get a good shot of the yellow gyrocopter? That was cool, it is like a flying rickshaw!

Thanks Colin. Nice to see that gyrocopter up close. It's neat.
That formation of the Mustang and jets is neat too. We saw that going on while we were arriving at the carpark and on the shuttle bus to the airfield. They seemed to do some pretty low, impressive runs along the crowdline from where we were.
Great photo of Gavin!

marvellous airshow! As a resident of Tauranga I feel so stoked to know we're going to have a potentially world class show here every two years. I'd say one of the top 3 shows I've ever been to, slightly behind Wanaka 2004 and Avalon 2001. Fantastic to see PV270 for the first time, and always a rush to see Keith in the Corsair. Great to see both P-40's as well. Love that Albatros as well, etc, etc, etc lol. Roll on 2012! Dear airshow gods, could we please have a certain Mozzie and FW190 at the 2012 show? oh and multiple Spits

Nice pics there too Marcus and same goes for furyfb11 and Dinga. Good to see some different perspective on the show. Anyone else take some pics of the stack? Very impressed and some look like they are sitting on the lower canopy? I bet they got a good view from up there? Cheers
