On second thoughts, the yellow gyrocopter is more like a flying tuk tuk, or perhaps Del-boy's three wheeler van! ;D

Just curious if JAA gave topdressing display on the Saturday?,because on the Sunday Derek Williams flew it with white overalls on,unlike the above photo which the pilot has blue overalls on.

Nice photos guys, have been too busy to have a good look through what I took but will post some soon. Here are one or two. The flight with the Harvard team was impressive, and hard work. Was interesting to compare the Harvard formation aeros versus the Red Checkers CT4E. Harvard loops are big so longer G etc but awesome fun.

I also only got the Aero Sport Kahu Gyrocopter ZK-RCP on the ground However, the other two gyro were a bit more amenable - the new AutoGyro Europe MT03 Eagle ZK-KIW and Sid Lane's similar Eagle ZK-RSL. Last year Sid flew this gyro around the coastline of NZ, the first gyro to complete such a trip Following up on the discussion on the flying display, I do add that the Sunday display was indeed a fine example of a well structured Warbird and aerobatic aircraft event. This is of course the style event that appeals to Joe the Public as well as to most aviation enthusiasts. Just look at the photos that have been posted on this thread - barely an SAA aircraft amongst them. If the SAA do wish to host an event for their own members, this is not it. I've had my say earlier, and the following photograph would seem to encapsulate how the SAA members fared

For a first major airshow organised by Andrew and his team I think they did an excellent job. Of course there will be a few hiccups there always is but everybody whinging on here about things like no program or things were to far away does not cure the problem. I wasn't there, but I would consider all the criticisms pointed out so far to be both valid (if minor) and constructive rather than whinging. And really, if those points noted are the worst faults people can find, then the unspoken implication is that a pretty good job was done. No-one has pointed out any major irredeemable c*%# ups as far as I can tell, and I have seen worse things to complain about at other NZ airshows in my time. It would be nice to see this event grow as another major North Island airshow in an alternate year to Wairarapa, and I wish it well for the future. It is certainly a lot easier for me to get to than Wanaka. Thanks to all who have posted photos so far, looks like a good watch

I am one of those members you get on Forums, who thoroughly enjoy the subject but due to an overall lack of knowledge or experience, find it a rare occasion when I can add anything of value to the tread.
I attended the Air Show, pretty well as a "Joe Public" although a lifetime interest in Aviation means I am pretty familiar with the Warbirds and that is why I go.
I attended with friends who have little background in Aviation but who also really enjoyed it. I have read the previous threads and agree with all of them. The "tentage" along the flightline needs to be seriously looked at for obvious reasons. Unless this is addressed there is little point in the "on field" displays (Police, army skirmishes etc.)
I can understand the position that the SAA people find themselves in. I could spend all day wandering around these light aircraft but the general public have a short attention span in this respect. The similarities of these planes would mean that any ongoing display would be lost on people with no appreciation or technical knowledge.
I found getting in and out of the show a breeze this year, the number of volunteers arranging this was amazing. In general terms a great success, roll on the next one.

I have to admit I do go to airshows to see and hear warbirds and jets, but the few homebuilts/sport aircraft they got flying for the show were the right choice I think, especially after the dissappointment of the 2008 show when it was held on the same weekend as the Mercury Bay show and practically NO warbirds turned up. I apologise for being opinionated and I certainly mean no offence to you sport aircraft chaps out there. I know it would be different if I actually owned one

everyones feedback has been really useful. Even as an SAA Council member i would say i dont go to airshows to see homebuilts! we should have a presence there, but I dont think a park of 80 aircraft would be any more effective at publicising the organisation than the park of 12 we arranged at short notice. some airshow participation would be nice, but frankly, most of our machines are more fun for those flying them, than those watching. The SAA fly - in was our national fly-in which includes social activities and our AGM, so we're not going to stop that, however I dont think it needs to be aligned to the airshow when we arent a major participant, especially when the 2 programmes clash.
Did anyone get any photos of the SAA hangar? I was too busy in it to get any decent ones.

Hi all Here are two of three video clips I made at the airshow. I will work on the third during next week.... I wont be able to work on it tomorrow as we are going to see my daughter at Devenport where she is doing her basic training (Navy). She has been in for five weeks now... Cant wait to see her again! Back to the vids. Good video spots, giving good field of view were hard to come by during the show... Did not get any footage of the last part of the show... thus no Corsair... damnnnn!!! www.youtube.com/user/marcduv#p/a/u/0/owx8BiqBmqIwww.youtube.com/user/marcduv#p/a/u/1/Kqt_Ls7lYncGavin... once again mate, awesome photos. Love the pic of the Harvard in the loop! Thanx for sharing them with us! Whenever I take stills nowadays I find myself wondering: "How would Gavin take this shot... "

What's Yoshi's solo display like? Will he be at Wanaka? Great shots folks, those air to air shots of the Harvards are super dramatic Gav, great pics.
