You can take that back thank you...... The only time I spent at OH was about 2 months learning A4 stuff before I went to Nowra, I'm a Whenuapai man and the sunburn is good actually, not as bad as I thought.

The MS22001 A4G mask is very similar to the A13A which is till used today on the Orions. The P and Q mask the A4 used since I had anything to do with them was the green medical latex version rather than the black rubber one, we also changed to the MQR wire retention system instead on the chains, the chains had a disturbing habit of coming apart in the cockpit causing many an hour of searching for all the bits!

The one at Whenuapai was pretty good too, wished I had taken the camera to work (picked up an EOS350D with a 100-300mm a week ago) as I had the perfect view and sun direction from inside the hangar. Heaps of cars lined up on the road watching. We had a full run thru the air force display, was standing next to a couple of Aussie exchange guys we have who hadn't seen the likes of the 757 and the P3 being thrown around, they were pretty impressed with what we do to our aircraft.

What about they guy who took a birdstrike in a Skyhawk in the USA while training and ejected, the front seater bought the aircraft back. He lost an eye didnt he? and maybe he returned to flying?

Great read. I was fortunate enough to have a look around inside the MOTAT Sunderland one day when I was there. A crew of us from the air force researched and applied the markings to it after the MOTAT people last gave it a coat of paint. About 1996 if my memory is any good. Roomy as inside, it seemed to go on forever.

The latest colour scheme Skyhawks did indeed carry 2Sqn and 75Sqn markings on either side. 75 on the left, 2 on the right. I have photos from the "Last Day" that shows it clearly. Les.

Great news. Boomer got his nickname by accidentally causing a sonic boom somewhere south of Nowra. Lots of complaints but I dont think anything actually got broken. Les.

Have heard nothing about a 2 dayer, you might find its pencilled in for both as a weather option. Last year it was show on the Saturday with Sunday being the rain date. I'll try to remember to have a look through the 701A (RNZAF Annual Plan) tomorrow and see if there is any mention of it. Les.

Dont let the different colour fool ya there. More than once during my tour in Nowra we borrowed small inspection panels that had become u/s on ours and too hard to make. From where, the A-4 in the Aussie Navy museum!!

Hi all, dont know if these have been seen here before but thought I'd share anyway. First, an A-4 going past HMS Illustrious at wave top height. Note the trails in the water, this guy is low!!. Next is a 727 coming too close for comfort to a big hole the ground while practicing for an airshow. Enjoy, Les.

Close there Corsair, ATSI operates the ex-Israeli A-4's. Hoss Pearson was involved with ATSI but it seems an internal company fight saw him split away and start a new company, TAS. My question would be where is this contract for them? If I had a contract that required me to buy 34 jets, I'd be advertising for instructors/mechanics and all the assorted things required to keep whats effectively a mini air force operational. I suspect he doesnt have a contract so therefore no one paying him so he cant pay for the jets yet. As for rebuilding a strike wing under a National government, dont hold your breath. The amount of money required to rebuild what we had would be phenominal, not to mention all the people. I think a lot of those who have left would come back to help rebuild, but you never can tell.

I had a good laugh when the TV3 reporter trying to sound all knowledgeable said something about he doubted there would have been enough AVGAS on board to get to Aussie. Les.

An F-15 sits much higher off the ground though, you couldn't do that. My money would be on a Mig-29. Note the bottom of the rudders and the small aft facing radomes
