Sounds like that policy has been produced by the standard Gov't department, feel-good, policy generating machine. Pretty much cut and paste thru many types of policies I've seen. Meh...

Thought it was the big super scheme outfit that bought it. taxpayers dont have a stake in this (directly anyway)...Dont really care who owns them, as long as my fuel costs decrease

OK, couple of issues here....Yes I know she was NZ-born, but left at age 2. Did she ever return? or hold a NZ passport? Or identify hereself as a New Zealander? Granted, her deeds were incredible, and she has been publicly acknowledged in those countries that she had associated with. What does constitute a New Zealander? Tough points for discussion but important nonetheless. And I'm sure theres been plenty of people that have served in conflicts over the past 100 years or so that "technically"could be called NZers but really have no hold or ties here. And do we only claim the "good guys"?? Just a little difficult for me to grasp as I'm 5th or 6th generation kiwi, and real damn proud of it!! Over to you then....

Similar to Dave's story when I was at Wigram (3TTS) the baggie-arses had to do gate duty over the weekends. One of the guys on my course was on duties fell asleep early one Saturday evening and woke at sunrise next day-the gate had been open all night! Even when the civvies had moved in it wasnt much better. I rocked up at OH one Saturday and explained to the security guy that I was expected at the Corporals mess, he just waved me thru, no signing in, no ID, and it had been a few years since I had got out...

Seems to me that theres quite a few here that belong to the most discriminated-against group in NZ:White, middle aged, heterosexual,able-bodied, employed, taxpaying, good-grasp-of-english-language,males! All joking aside, we're on a slippery slope with this thread folks....soon to turn into some of the ranting that is seen elsewhere. Thought we were a bit better than that??

Woohoo! just got mine and found a pic with me in it on pg191....so question: Is it possible to get copies of an öfficial RNZAF photo"? If so, where from? The wife and kids think its a cool picture, but mock me mercilessly for the moustache

Fantastic pics of a great city! Quick question tho...on the 3rd photo (with the tyres in the foreground) there seems to be a pattern of 3 lights in a triangular style repeated throughout the shot. Can you tell me what those are? I lived in Wgtn for a few years and would struggle to remember such gorgeous evenings!

Just superb pictures, and what a fantastic unique aircraft too...many years of service that should be celebrated! By-the-by...is there anything current that matches its VTOL/STOL performance? Or is this the end of an era??

yep, it was '81. Just had a quick look at some previous posts with great photos. Things that stand out was the F-15 climbing vertically till ya couldnt see it....and the time it took to get the car out onto SH1 to get home! For a young farm boy this was the ultimate show, and so hopefully these upcoming ones will have the same effect on this generation...

Would be fantastic to see some of our ANZUS friends turn up to this. Its a pretty big deal for the Air Force so any support from overseas would be great. Remember those airshows we used to have? I remember one at Ohakea, must have been late 70's or early 80's with the yanks etc there. awesome flying and static displays...sigh...

Also interested-do these guys that wear a chute whilst flying have/require training for deployment? Or is it just "demonstrate knowledge of"? Surely that first (unplanned) jump you take wouldnt be either graceful or controlled, yet I suppose the alternative isnt too flash either!

Great idea-that would've saved my old man many hours of work! Him and his father fenced 1200 acres of hill farm north of Waikanae using horses or the bren gun carrier that he'd purchased off the army! yet another example of kiwi ingenuity....

Just found Books a Plenty here in Tauranga has them on order. Theyre better to deal with as they seem to have a passion for books.

This will have no effect on carbon emissions-the ones creating them simply pay the bill, add the cost onto the customer, which is then paid by the Government in the form of rebates. I think the government even stands to lose money on this deal. I'm not even an Aussie (yet...) and I think this is a bad deal!

Same for Tauranga-will the national chains be stocking them, or do I pick one up at Classic Flyers?

Has been good PR showing the resourcefullness and can-do attitude of our guys over there. Good on them, this sort of co-operation is what gives our armed forces that good reputation overseas, which is often overlooked back home...
