Hi all
I teach at Waikato Dio. Looking forward to the choppers visit. Last time one paid us a visit I was in a meeting when it arrived. Hopefully this time I will be able to get everything on video.
Those of you that have not yet seen it, here is the short clip from the previous visit.

Hi Dave and the rest of the group A short background sketch to the visit of Iroquois NZ3814 to my school on Friday might be of interest to the group. I am a teacher at Waikato Diocesan School in Hamilton and an aviation “nut”. Lee Davies one of our computer techies at school shares a similar interest and is also a member of the local search and rescue team. As he knew that 3 Squadron were sending up two Iroquois for training with the local search and rescue teams he suggested we get one of the choppers to land at our school for the girls (Dio is an all girls school) to look at. We just happen to be working at the school and under no circumstance did we arrange the visit for our own benefit…. Our principal did not hesitate and gave her approval for the visit. Lee then did the rest, organising the visit with his mates at 3 Squadron. I was in a meeting so missed the landing but got out in time to video the take-off. Marcus

Hi Dave and the rest of the group.
Got some extra info on the pilot in question.
Flight Sergeant, Ernest Frank Boddy Service no: 4216522 flew Kittyhawks and the Corsairs with 17 Sqdn from Guadalcanal, Green island and Bougainville (1942 - 1945)

Hi all
One of my year 11 history pupils mentioned to me a few days ago that her granddad flew fighters in the pacific. She is not sure what sort of fighter/s but says it starts with a “C”. She does not know aircraft so I am assuming it was Corsairs. When I asked her if he was ground crew, aircrew and if he flew with other people in the same aircraft (bombers)she was very adamant that he was a single seat fighter pilot.
All that I have to go on is his surname which is Boddy. She does not know his first name or initials.
How can I find out more about the war-time history of the gentleman in question?
This is purely to satisfy my own curiosity.
Thanx
Marcus

Hi all
My daughter and myself had a good duel.... but age and cunning will always win... On my second try 16.8 sec. (First try was to learn how it works... does the 16.8 thus stand?) so does that mean I will only be good at driving a C130 while the F35 jocks get 2 min? heh, heh, heh

I am a F/A-22 Raptor
You are an F/A-22. You are technologically inclined, and though you`ve never been tested in combat, your very name is feared. You like noise, but prefer not to pollute any more than you have to. And you can move with the best. ;D

Hi all Talking about flying or driving. I took the following pic in South Africa about four years ago. Once a year over Easter the ZCC (Zion Christian Church) would gather at Moria, half way between Polokwane and Tzaneen in the north of the country. The congregation would flock to Moria from all corners of the land. When I took this pic there was an estimated million and a half people at the gathering. Most of the attendees make use of public transport, hence all the busses and what we in SA called mini-bus taxi’s, 1000X1000’s of Toyota Hiaces. I have made a tentative stab at counting the busses and believe that there is about 3 000 in the photo. I can’t help wondering what would happen if the bus in the middle of the lot had to get going in a hurry. Being on the roads in the vicinity of Moria when the gathering broke up was an experience all on its own! Marcus Just to keep the thread to an aviation topic. This is my mates Cherokee in which we flew the day.

Not Wellington¡K but early morning at Lake Karapiro three weeks ago. My daughter had to be at the rowing early. Awesome time to be next to lake! Took the pic with my standard 18-55 lens with no filter. ¡§Sunburst¡¨ sounded like a nice name for the pic ƒº If anybody interested in some similar scenerey you might be interested in the following Youtube clip I put together for my daughter. Hi Bruce
Please add my name to the list of those attending. Can take two extra people with me in the car from the Airport to Cambridge and back again if there is a need?
Thank you

Hi all My daughter and myself spent most of the morning in Cambridge at the Armistice commemorations. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the people that helped organise and present the two day event. Well done Dave! I am presently building a 1:72 Airfix GMC Truck so it was good to see several of them in attendance. Took a few pics during the day… Here is a few of them. (Dave hope you don’t mind that it is not aircraft… but seeing that you are involved with the event thought you wouldn’t mind…. ;D ) Marcus

ANSWERS TO MARC'S PLANE QUIZ.... 1. RNZAF Seasprite, taken at Whenuapai in 2005 2. Taupo (Just about in the center/middle of the North Island for the non Kiwis on the list) 3. Not this particular engine but same would have been used by RNZAF Vampires. Pic taken at Ohakea Museum in 2005 4. Casa C 212. Photo taken in Tzaneen a small town about 400 km north east of Pretoria, South Africa in 1991. The aircraft was then part of the Venda Defence Force Air Wing. At present (2007) it serves with the SAAF. 5. Brett answered: BAE Hawk T60A of the Zimbabwe Air Force. Looks like it was taken at the African Aerospace & Defense 200 Expo at Waterkloof, sometime between 5-9 September 2000. But that's just a guess. Amazing!!! Brett, It was AA&D 2000 but the rest of your answer is spot on!Dave, hope you are getting over your shocking experience? Have a great day all Marcus

Hi all I am on hols at the moment so thought I would set a "Plane Quiz" for the group with some of the photos I have taken during the last several years. Yes I know, you can take me out of the classroom but you can't take the teacher out of me... ;D Have fun! Marcus 1. Identify the aircraft the gun is mounted in/on: 2. Where in NZ do we find this MacDak? 3. What RNZAF aircraft used this engine? 4. Now for some international questions: Identify the following aircraft? 5. Identify the aircraft, the air force it belongs to and the place/country the photo was taken?

Hi Dave
Hang in there mate! I know what you are going through! My mum is in South Africa and was diagnosed with bowl cancer several weeks ago. I flew back the week before the last school holidays for five days to be withg her and say good-bye. Saying good-bye with the knowledge that in all probability it would be the last time that I would see her alive was not very pleasant! With each day we expect to hear the final bad news. Be there for you mum and support her as best you can! All of us will look after the forum for you, don't worry!
We have a saying in Afrikaans: “Vasbyt” which literally means to grit your teeth and stand strong! That holds true for you and your mum!
