I could see if my friend Mark Bragg who has Len Tawhiri's photo negatives can come forward and share them to see if there is anything of interest in there that relates to this subject and time and date? He was promising to drop a coupl;eof shoe boxes off at some stage. I would pay for the scanning and digitisation... Oh bother, he only worked up as far as late 50's but there are a lot of post war training group photos and bi-planes of various shapes and makes in there so he said, but nothing of the 60's going forward. Sorry...

I went to Napier that weekend for the Art Deco show and the weather had such low cloud cover, I don't think anything was allowed to depart from Ardmore for local flying anyway. Quite a hilly route to Napier which needs good visibility the whole journey. Quite a few aircraft were due to appear there with the Harvards, Spitfire and a couple of jets? etc but nothing could leave Auckland before or during the weekend. Very low level cloud (~200ft) at Hawkes Bay Airport with regular drizzle showers on the Saturday. Surprised civilian aircraft were landing and taking off!
Lets hope for better weather for both shows next time!!

Yeah always keen for a brunch, dinner, beers or two with a hat going around. I just miscued last year and picked the wrong day so missed it but still sent some funds through. Graeme

I have a photo that shows the Avenger, Corsair, Mustang, Spitfire and the P40 wingtip and in the background was a red DHC-2 Beaver and the Devon. Sorry the quality is poor... oh, and Sir Tim Wallis... Spitfire XVIe by Graeme Sutherland, on Flickr

Should be a good listen, if only I wasn't editing photos and videos at night so much this week. Rugby Prizegiving on Saturday night and Photographer of the evenings record... so more pics to edit next week!

11SQNLDR - I did much the same thing in 2015 but included Formula 1 at Silverstone the week before Flying Legends! Had already visited Yeovilton to view the Museum but not an airshow/open day. While down that neck of the woods, a trip to Solent Sky Museum is very interesting (yes there is a full Short Sandringham there ex RAF Sunderland MkIII, TEAL & ANSETT etc, ZK-AMH - I think at one stage) and the Portsmouth dockyards. - Victory and other vessels of note. Cambridge is not too far away from Bomber County of Lincolnshire and the two Lancasters... I am likely heading over to UK again in July 2018 mainly to catch up with my son & partner now in Glasgow to play rugby for two seasons. Not sure of it will tie in with anything aviation... Graeme

Yes just fabulous - love the moody evening shots, ad the sharp shots of the formation flying.

These days, there is usually a couple of tents associated with drones and high tech farming. Probably the most aviation item to attract attention. It would interest me if I went. Mind you, I am a farmer's son and aerial topdressing was always a favorite activity. Drones are now on gps circuits to check troughs and sheep for becoming cast, stock through fences etc.

Alright then ... she is now uploaded after a bit of editing and cropping and only at 720P - I have a 1080P one creating now. My mistake. It was a windy day so a lot of wind noise at times through the microphone, but not so much when starting up the Rolls-Royce Merlins!
And the Full HD 1080 Version
Cheers

I saw Just Jane in June 2015, out for her taxi run with 12 paying passengers on board. They paid £350 IIRC and they give her a run at least once a week in summer, weather permitting. Lovely to hear her 4 Merlins and to see their passion. A nice little tea-room there too and another aviation bookshop! I have a video somewhere, I could put together and load up to YouTube. I should just do that!!

Nice job. A flapless approach too (probably due to the hydraulic failure) which would limit the damage to the flaps. But increase the approach speed which means a longer "slide" - well controlled that man! Well done. Let's hope there is not too much damage done on the gentle landing other than gravel rash which in most cases is easily repaired/replaced. From a video I saw of the approach and landing, he came in nice and low and flat then pulled the nose up slightly, nice and stable and then slowed the engines thrust back just at the threshold, beautifully controlled and executed for a rear touchdown first. I don't claim to be a pilot but it appeared well thought out and with some real skills applied.
