And from Wikipedia on the Handley Page Hastings ... "During the period that the engines were having problems with their sleeve valves (lubricating oil difficulties) RNZAF personnel joked that the Hastings was the best three-engined aircraft in the world." Handley Page Hastings Transport

That makes three Concordes in museums in England then! Well done chaps! I have walked through two of them - Fleet Air Arm Museum Yeovilton and also one at Duxford. Is there another?

That link for a 35 page pdf file download worked if you deleted the word link off the pdf bit. It shows the structure of the MOD and NZ Defence Force as well with names and titles etc. A lot in there. "Released under the Official Information Act 1982" Although some paragraphs have been blacked out up to whole pages! Too sensitive to release.
"The most significant upcoming investments on the Defence Capital Plan are the Future Air Surveillance and Future Air Mobility capability projects, with a combined indicative capital investment of XXXXX about by the mid 2020s."
The document is still worth a read.

Any chance you can track down his logbook through the family Graham? Dave Iggo's daughter Sue told me "Trevor Wilton died many years ago. Last known address was a farm in Rangitumau, near Masterton. Has a daughter Jane, and two sons. Whereabouts unknown." My mother's family lived in Rangitumau region also - a lot of cousins in the same area. I don't really have any contacts back there now but I will do a search - McLachlans and Stuarts are still there I think. I might draw a blank... Oh I still have a Wilton cousin there myself. I'll try Stephen.

Dave, I have been decoding pdf files to jpg's and editing the jpgs to make the files readable. I am happy to do this if I can help.

Great reading! The Trevor Wilton would have been a cousin of my mother - all Wiltons from Masterton were related (parents moved there from Wellington, hence suburb of Wilton!).

Glad to hear you are ok KTJ - apart from the nerves and the memory which will not go away quickly. At least it was just the trailer unit and not the truck, the trailer being the lighter and more loosely constructed element of the whole load - and no buses or passenger vehicle was involved. I bet the horn probably was used excessively too! You can't stop the idiots ... perhaps he/she had a brake failure locking the brakes on or something and unable to pull away. The coppers did a great job - pleased about the care they gave you!!

If I recall correctly, were not the early Doves built with a fixed non-steering nose wheel? Can you tell externally? Were these ones setup for nose wheel steering? Or am I thinking of a different aircraft? Graeme

In the first photo, the second smaller line is the natural gas line that supplies energy to the Marsden Point refinery and Northland. Two very good photos.

Bill Kain's Spitfire Codes and his Hurricane serial codes (not SQ Codes) will be available in the ORB records Jan and Feb 45 - well they should be. I did note that 609 SQ used the SQ codes and not the aircraft serials though, it varied from Sq to Squadron. 486, 438, 439, 440 and 198 Squadrons all used the aircraft serials... the pilots seemed to use the Squadron Codes in their logbooks.

Has Kev got a bigger workshop now? After spending so much time and effort on the previous aircraft workshop!! (Not to mention aircraft moving trailers...) I notice mattresses are used regularly!!

I have been buying the monthly copies of the ORB's for 486 Sq at the moment in 1943, but I can go ahead and get all of 1944 and 1945 as well. I convert them from pdf into jpgs which I can digitally edit to make reading and retyping better for our Typhoon Project historical element Which I sporadically post. I take it he did fly for 486 Squadron? These would be a worthwhile addition andif his logbooks were available would certainly build up the picture and stories. Graeme

I have a Premium? Acct with Flickr only for US$30 a year I think - can upload 30 photos a day or something. My Dropbox acct for 1TB is US$10/month, that was a bit heavy I thought...

HAHA! Weekdays I take the paper to work for the read and the Puzzle section. In the weekends, I scan the puzzle section of the Waikato Times to get the Codecracker (and 3 Sudoku) to take or send to work for two puzzles on Monday. If I am away sick on on holiday, I fret when I can't find every day of the puzzles... LOL!
