Beautifully done pal! Crikey, I am scared of Classic Airframes 1/48 version with all its resin and stuff much less the same sort of complexity in 1/72nd. I commend you heartily. That's a really good job.

I built one recently and posted the build and a diorama construction on kiwimodeller.com RNZAF 75th Anniversary GB and its Build Gallery. Finished here as NZ2090, the first RNZAF aircraft to achieve a confirmed enemy aircraft destroyed in the South Pacific when 3 BR Squadron's F/O McCormick shot down a FM1 'Pete' on or about 2 April 1943. Based on the photograph in Ventura's 'Pacific Twins' taken early 1943 when red roundel centres have been reduced to a minimum but red still appears on the fin flashes (it seems). The decals - which will not satisfy absolute accuracy buffs - are somewhat cobbled together from mostly Ventura sources. Paint is Testors RAAF Foliage Green and self-mixed AeroMaster NZ Blue Sea Grey over NZ Duck Egg (AM RAF Sky Gray). Like Special Hobby's Avro Anson seen on here recently it is a fairly tough little build but worth it. The kitset comes with more-or-less complete interior detail (but no bomb bay). Cheers, Wally. The owners have given me permission to make it known that this exists, a previously unrecorded Lockheed Hudson fuselage section currently in the form of a disused caravan awaiting refurbishment. It is located in the Hokianga area and might be for sale depending on a number of factors. It has much sentimental value to the owners but they will take historical preservation into consideration. In other words, it will have to go to a very good home! The caravan is the cockpit & bomb bay roof or wing root area of the fuselage. The entry door appears to have been moved forward to just behind the cockpit. The serial # is unknown but there is a bomb load plaque underneath (I am told). 6 or 7 fuselage windows are intact as is the astrodome rim and numerous other small items. The aircraft/vehicle is fairly weather-tight. The structure and skin is in surprisingly intact condition. Anyone interested in more information should PM me in the first instance with your email address and I will send many more photos. I look forward to hearing from you. Really? Revell USA did reply to me that they had passed my suggestion on to their product development (or some such) department ... which is probably located in Germany ...? Anyhow, it got through to someone, despite being directed to sales. I also got an Italian language response from Italeri I don't understand. But unless hundreds or perhaps thousands of others have sent emails too ... the likelihood of mine having any effect is ..............?

Thanks baronbeeza & suthg for putting those up properly. I won't ask how you did it as the explanation will probly be too complicated for me anyhow. It's great to see photos like this of aircraft I have made or will make models of. I'll leave it to Richard to work out future postings of his photos. Cheers, Wally.

Let's hope so. In fact let's hope they are tooling it up at this very minute. Perhaps thousands of emails from modellers would help? I've already sent mine, along with one to Italeri advising them to scale up their 1/72 Hudson to a 1/48 all-Marks version. And the likelihood of this having any effect is ....................?

I've attached here - or tried to - the pdf file sent to me by rhawk3333 which shows both sides of the original photo of his father, Ossie Hawkins, standing in front of NZ5315 at Bougainville before a strike. There's a nice note on the back. In my computer ignorance all I have been able to do with the photo is first rotate it and second copy it to word.doc A4 size. Others may have different ways of processing it. According to Richard this is one of several or many unofficial photos and he will attempt to find ways to upload them. Richard will contact site admin about this. Hope this wets your appetites? Cheers, Wally. Attachments:

Without understanding the German it appears to me Revell is re-releasing MPM's 1/72nd Hudson Mk I/II 'Patrol Bomber'. A fairly difficult but nicely detailed little short-run version of the Hudson (a la Special Hobby's Avro Anson posted on here lately). Exactly the same kitset is also boxed as A-29/PBO-1 by MPM (as pictured) and contains the cowlings and exhausts to build an RNZAF Mk III which can clearly be seen here. I recently built one on www.kiwimodeller.com/index.php/forum/68-rnzaf-75th-anniversary/27907-1-72-mpm-hudson-mk-iii-rnzaf and there are also pictures of it and the completed diorama in the Build Gallery of that forum. It's a new [Revell?] all-injected 1/48 scale Hudson (a la PV-1 Ventura) that I (and the rest of the aviation modelling world) are hanging out for. Cheers Attachments:

Further to 'Summer Projects', the artwork on this aircraft, almost certainly NZ5229 'E', is apparently No 18 Squadron RNZAF's emblem or squadron badge during WW2. I would love to (try to) reproduce it for my NZ5227 'C' commission build, so if anyone has a better picture or has determined exactly what it looked like please let me know. Many Thanks, Wally. Forgot to mention - for this build I am seeking the two 'C' white code letter decals for the cowling, if anyone has some or has, for instance, Ventura's old NZ5255 'C' Irate Donald Duck in 1/32nd they would part with? I also need suitable size black serial numbers and will post the size measurements tomorrow. The same size as NZ5416 Tutae Wera's serial numbers in 1/32nd scale. PM me if you can help? Many Thanks, Wally.

Don't give up Sputnik 767. Each according to his/her ability. Or, if you do give up, don't pack your kits away, donate them to me! The P-40M is wonderful. I love it. I doubt I will ever build anything as good. And the exhausts are brilliantly painted ... but I think they are the wrong exhausts, not being fishtails ...? I wonder what scale it is and what the base kitset is?

NZ4515 5448 PV-1 Bu33439. Assembled at Oahu and BOC with Unit 19, Whenuapai on 10 July 1943. To No.1 Squadron, Whenuapai. To No.2 GR Squadron, Ohakea by September 1943. Ferried to Guadalcanal departing Whenuapai on 20 October 1943. To Guadalcanal. Returned to New Zealand on 20/21 May 1944. With No.1 OTU, Ohakea by June 1944. No records of disposal. My fourth RNZAF PV-1 Ventura this year, NZ4515 at Piva, Bougainville in May 1944 just prior to returning to New Zealand. I have assumed she was repainted in NZ Blue Sea Grey/NZ Sky earlier rather than later [possibly even prior to leaving NZ?] and the paintwork is quite faded and weathered after 7 months operations in the tropics. The build is on www.kiwimodeller.com in RNZAF 75th Anniversary Group Build with more pictures in the Build Gallery of that forum. (I will get the hang of photobucket some day and post more pictures here, sorry) Revell 1/48 kitset (with the starboard rear fuselage window repositioned though not perfectly accurately yet ... nek time), Color of Eagles & Aeromaster self-mixed acrylics brush painted, Ventura decals. Thanks for looking Wally. PS - "No records of disposal" ... I wonder what happened to her? Attachments:

How amazing is that!? Wonderful idea beautifully rendered. I agree about the tyres maybe need aging and some guano or whatever signs of birdlife ... mayb a fantail fluttering around? Or how about a couple of youngsters on bicycles ...? But in essence it is absolutely brilliant. So very Kiwi. May I ask, did you scratchbuild the exterior details or can they be purchased? I am about to build one of these in 1/48 and would love to include that stuff on the rear fuselage. Cheers, Wally.

Today I received a copy of "A Long Patrol" an illustrated history of No.1 Squadron RNZAF by James Sanders. On page 50 is a lovely half-page B&W photo of a PV-1 cockpit showing the instrument panel and pedestal which confirms the starboard pedals and stick are not present. The pedestal appears to be all black with lots more instruments than the kitset's supposedly interior green one. You can't actually see the jump seat but I guess it is there.

Dave, Calum, anyone, the kitset has two joy stick/steering wheels (forgive my ignorance of exactly what to call them) and a second set of rudimentary pedals, so, in the absence of a co-pilot, would these have remained or been removed? Cheers, Wally.

Can't wait to see more of the build. Most excellent instrument panel and radio gear. The whole interior looks great. It is also really useful to know about the jump seat, thanks for that research.
