I used the decals from the kiwi-models DC3, which has a fieldair option, but the decals were too big, so i scaned them, and downsized them, and then reprinted them.

With my Airfix Heron, also came a beaver and ford tri-motor, so i thought I'd take a break from NAC Planes, and do a different NZ aircraft. So here is my Fieldair Beaver, ZK - BMF ZK - BMF was used by Fieldair from 1961. It was used as a crop duster until it was converted to passenger configuration in 1992. In 1994 it was exported to Canada, but crashed on 20 September 2004, and was not recovered. (All this info on this plane was from kiwi beaver's website.) I'll put more photo's up in the next day or two...

So will be the first year that the checkers haven't performed at Warbirds over Wanaka? It'll be quite a lean Air Froce presence this year, if that's the case... :-(

That is an absolutely mind blowing model. I bet it stands out on any model aircraft display. Well Done

I found them on the net, and basically used them as a guide to make my own, and then printed them onto decal paper...

Isn't this one of the new armoured personnel carriers the army purchased? Its that colour to blend in with the locals. ;D You could just ring the number on the back, and ask them... On a side note: It is very clean for a vehicle that is obviously used off road, judging from the meaty 4x4 tyres on it.

A quick glance on google, shows that electra model 12's are made by Special Hobby, who, fortunately also make a civil version of the Loadster in 1/72. I'll have to do some saving. The 737-200 also comes in 1/72 from Arura. They are getting rare and expensive though...

Unfortunately he has long gone. There was also a fairly good model shop in Ranui, and that has gone too. There was one in Ponsonby, which was mainly R/c, but had a growing number of plastic models, and that closed down too. There just doesn't seem to be the same market for plastic models as there used to... :-(

My first models were made for me by my dad. They were a range of 1/144 jets (hornet, phantom, and tornado) Then he built me a 1/72 mitchell bomber, and also a couple of 1/24 cars and hotrods. My dad was very good at building models for us, even with those stupid little tubes of glue that come in the boxes. I still have most of them, usually missing some parts, but too much sentimental value to get rid of...I gave it a go on (believe it or not) an airfix spitfire, and hurricane, which i brought at model x, when i was about 11. Been hooked ever since.

I was mainly interested in James Aviation, and Airwork Tigers. Apparently in the early days of Airwork they used Tiger(s) to drop poisoned carrots. Any idea how these were dropped? Also apparently Lawson Field (founder of Fieldair) used a tigermoth called Barbera II to drop phosphate. Any idea what the rego was and possible colour scheme of this plane is? also any close up on the spray gear on ZK - ANL?

Hi Guys.
I am wanting to model an agricultural Tiger Moth in NZ, but the internet seems to be void of pictures of any agricultural tiger moths, so I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of these work horses, and also of the trucks, equipment they used.
Thanks in advance

I have been to MOTAT recently, and i think what they have done in recent times with the aircraft they have is quite phenomenal. I am glad that the directors of MOTAT had the foresight in the early days to keep hold of the aircraft they have. It would have been a crying shame if the planes they have had ended up turned into scrap, like so many other NZ's planes did... Good on them for finally having enough money to start construction of another hangar, and once all the planes are inside, it will be an aviation museum that will rival the best in NZ
