I came across an article in Defense News about the USAF wants to increase the number of transport squadrons and there has been a couple of studies done one of ideas being banded about is restarting the C-17 Production line. It's more of I think someone thinking out loud. But never say never. Plus I vote for C-130J as I've got a half built 1/72nd kit of one which I'd like to something other than a what if.

Just reported on stuff
Interesting that they state SNJ but it could be an FW190 although it looks a 2 blade prop.
No injuries.

3rd OPV

Post by kiwiruna on Oct 20, 2018 14:52:46 GMT 12
Hi All, It looks like we may be getting a 3rd OPV. I was on the Navy website and under the Meet the fleet,New Capability there is the following
"Third Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV). The NZDF plays a role in supporting New Zealand's interests in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. The third OPV is one of a range of new capabilities to modernise the NZDF signalled in the 2016 Defence White Paper. The OPV will add an ice-strengthened vessel to the fleet off offshore patrol vessels."
I know its' been talked about for some time but perhaps it's going to happen. I'd rather see a proper warship but hey its better than nothing now wheres the new lift aircraft.

Dave & Phil, Thanks for the replies, was kind of interesting seeing the 2 NH90s flying over the house. Dave HBC= Hibiscus coast/Whangaparaoa Peninsula. I'm lucky as my flat looks out over the water back towards the city so I often get the Navy parking in one of the local bays and get the Seasprites buzzing around so seeing the NH90s is a little unusual.

Hi Guys, Is the RNZAF involved in an exercise at the moment? Over the last couple of days there's been a pair NH 90s flying over the HBC and there also seems to be an increase in C-130 flights over the house also, just interested.

It begs the question. Why specifically a Dambusters Lanc? Maybe it is to coincide with a remake of a particular 1955 war movie that included modified Lancasters. Just saying.

Hi All On the NZ Herald site is this article on the NZSAS.
While it doesn't contain really new it makes for a good read, also there is enough references to guns, shooting & general military stuff to upset the Green brigade for a week of Sundays.

Hi Guys. just saw this on the Beeb
One of the last living Battle of Britain aces Tom "Ginger" Neil has died at the age of 97.
Wing Commander Neil, who lived in Thwaite St Mary, near Bungay, flew more than 140 missions and shot down 14 enemy planes during the Second World War.
He died peacefully on Wednesday, a few days before his 98th birthday.
Wing Commander Neil flew Hurricanes and Spitfires during his service between 1938 and 1964.
The term ace is given to a pilot who has shot down five enemy aircraft. the full article

While it would be nice UAVs have a way to go before they are at a point where they can do Air Combat.I believe there is a lag time of something like 1 to 2 seconds between pilot input and it activating the control surfaces/weapons.Which would be a problem if you were up against a manned aircraft.2 seconds is either a really short time or really long time depending upon what you are doing.
