Ok ... here goes. My first post is a request of sorts. I'm a photo editor for an Aviation History magazine here in the states. We're planning a short item on the P-40C and it's first flight. I noticed some great images here and thought I'd toss out a request. If anyone is interested I'm looking forward to seeing some images of the airplane at the show. In the air would be great. Yes ... monetary compensation is part of the deal. Thanks, you guys have some unique things flying down there, great stuff! Hi there Check out the NZ Warbirds posting .... these photos are from the P40c's maiden flight a week bedore the airshow This link should take you there www.facebook.com/pages/NZ-Warbirds-Association-Inc/150073775005366#!/media/set/fbx/?set=a.212910188721724.58900.150073775005366 You are welcome to use the photos I can send them in a larger format regards Ralph

As a slight aside to the Omaka trip...
I had the pleasure of "doing lunch" on Mondays ferry with some bloke called Kermit Weeks and his #1 wood and fabric restoration man (whose name escapes me sorry...).
Kermit was actually quite "over-awed" with what NZ had to display. He is used to airshows running 3 hours maximum in the afternoon, not all day. I commented that thought that despite what was displayed at Omaka, I felt it was a little light-weight compared to other shows (no Chipmunks, large vintage DH craft, only the Strikemaster when we have L3 and Vampire machines flying) and it really made Masterton's show stand out (in my mind...).
Kermit is a very focused man and I could see the frustration on the face of his mtce man who constantly looks to give workable solutions to Kermit's problems - yet only Kermit knows in his head what the "master plan" (his words) were!!! Quite entertaining for me to observe...

It all comes down to who can attend, an in the case of the Chipmunks, 3 were there and I think it was supposed to be like the last show but there were illnesses and mechanical issues if I recall correctly. You can plan all you want but we are only human and aircraft break down. Yeah Kermit Weeks is an interesting chap and really enjoyed his interview at the show by Graham Orphan. Still think he needs to give us our ex RNZAF Mustang back. ;D

Pete Chipmunks did display at Omaka this year!! You must have missed them. In any case I consider Chippies lightweight and are simply gap fillers. I would much prefer to see the Strikemaster any day over an L39, there's so much more history and emotion attached. And I think the pilot of the Blunty put on an absolutely great display for an aircraft still in the early days of a new engine. Personally I consider Omaka to be NZ's best airshow nowadays, eclipsing all others. And after recent experiences with Masterton's fickle weather I wouldn't make the effort to go all that way again without a very good reason I don't think.

I would agree regarding Omaka as being the premier NZ airshow.
I have attended the last 3 Classic Fighters, the last 2 Wings over Wairarapa and the last 2 Warbirds over Wanaka.
In my opinion Omaka offers the best weather (well most reliable), scenery, variety of aircraft and intimacy.
It is only going to rise in the "world rankings" of must do airshows.

Who was the airshow commentator who made the remark over the PA about Kermit's Sunderland that it used to fly for TEAL before it flew for Ansett? It most definitely did not ever fly for TEAL. It went straight from the RNZAF to Ansett.

I liked Peter Mac's commentary remark when Graham announced that the Indian restaurant tent was now offering half price curries, Pete said "That'll blow up better than the V2", or words to that effect. Very witty.

Am I right in saying I haven't seen any images from Gavin Conroy here yet. Is he away overseas or something ?
