That isn't an answer. More info in days, weeks, or months? Or the week before the show?
I've bought a ticket (didn't see anything about Park and ride, and nothing prompting to go look for it on mobile), but others are quite reasonably waiting.

Take your complaints to them, not here. Everyone else is having a bitch and moan on their site. Poor bastards, I feel sorry for them.

They aren't even indicating when they will announce participants, which is poor form. Maybe because they don't know?

They aren't even indicating when they will announce participants, which is poor form. Does it really matter what the participants are when most people will only see little black dots in the distance while they sit in the traffic jam That's unfair when they have clearly put a lot of effort into addressing this acknowledged major issue.

That's unfair when they have clearly put a lot of effort into addressing this acknowledged major issue. Rubbish. It's not unfair at all. They also claimed to have put a lot of effort into the traffic plan last time. None of us believed that their plan would be effective last time, that was clear as soon as it was announced. I was amazed that the authorities didn't raise blue murder about what would obviously happen to SH1. This time they are doing things like opening the carparks at 6am, gates open 7am, Park and rides being pushed (rather than a minor afterthought), and the traffic has been a significant part of their communications from early on. There has clearly been a change in attitude. Therefore IMHO automatically assuming (before you have seen any real details) that it will be a disaster on the scale of the 75th is unfair. Me too (although I'll be starting from Fielding this time, rather than Hawera, to improve my experience). Hopefully part of the change in attitude is better enforcement (which shouldn't be that difficult, I would have thought?).

The biggest difference is that this time all the tickets are pre sold, so the air force knows how many are coming on each day. The air show has been split over two days, which will make for less people on each day. With no gate sales there wont need to be the hold up at the parking to charge car loads of people.
The contractor for the traffic control did the london Olympics, so has some experience in managing traffic for large events.
However, people are more than welcome to stay home.

As a former Traffic Engineer..... "Best laid plans of mice and men.." comes to mind. All you need is for someone to take matters into their own hands at an event like this and the herd instinct comes into play. Also, although the guys devising the traffic plan may have a handle on the big picture, if the lowest paid cog in the machine is not really doing his/her job then delays, frustration, queue jumping etc all start and the plan falls into a heap. Open the car parks early, get them in and hold the people inside before opening the pedestrian gates. Get them off the roads asap. I remember well driving for about 5km down the wrong side of the road at Wanaka in 2012 with a huge queue of traffic waiting 'patiently' only to find that the car park gates were shut and the traffic guys standing there rigidly adhering to the open times. When Trevor and I got to the Admin area I had them radio across to open the gates and get the people in. We were very well aware of what had happened at Ohakea soon before Wanaka and did not want a repeat of that criticism.

Get up early and get in the gates early is my advice. I left Palmy at 7am in 2012 and breezed right through without even stopping...

The good news for everyone is the carparks are opening at 6am this time, a strong indication that someone competent is involved in traffic planning.

This just in via email: Good morning, Can you please pass this on to your particular association members. I had a meeting in Air Staff on Monday to discuss the 80th anniversary Air Tattoo next year. Wearing my RNZAFA hat, the RNZAF has asked me to act as a point-of-contact for all the various RNZAF-associated veterans groups for the purpose of facilitating veteran attendance at the Tattoo. In the first instance I am simply looking for an indication of the number of veterans who might wish to take advantage of assistance at Ohakea. The veterans being targeted are principally, but not necessarily exclusively, Goldcard holders. The detail of any assistance is yet to be determined, but might consist of special bus transport to the Base from a designated point(s), and a marquee dedicated to veterans to be located near a VIP marquee on the Base. Assistance from the marquee might include a place to rest, food and water, and medical assistance. In addition to getting an idea of numbers, I am also looking for ideas on what other assistance veterans might want or need. Where veterans need to be accompanied by family members, please also clearly indicate how many family members you would wish to attend with you. (Depending on interest, we might need to limit family member numbers). In short, please advise me by Friday 11 November your interest in taking advantage of 'veteran assistance' at next year's Air Tattoo, numbers of family members you might wish to accompany you, and any support that might be needed on the day. You can either email me directly, or preferably, association secretaries can provide a consolidated response. Note that we will all need to purchase tickets through Ticketek ($35 per adult). I appreciate you giving this your urgent attention. Terry. Terry Gardiner Air Cdre RNZAF (Ret) National President RNZAF Association gardfam77@gmail.com

Our best chance would be some Marine Corps assets rotating in or out of planned bassing in Australia, I think (see the USMC KC-130J from 2012). An amphib task force with an "it isn't an aircraft carrier, really" in Auckland for the week would be stellar! There was talk this week of B-1s rotating into Tindal, so you never know! B-1 CAS training 'in vicinity of Australia'
