OH WOW !!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been on the page for a while but IM so happy this has finally come in from the cold I sat in her when I was 16 up at Riverhead and only dreamed on taking her away. Does Ken Jacobs still own her ?? I tracked him down years ago and he didn't want to hear about it. I cant believe the huge amount of work the team has done in such a short amount of time You truly do have a brilliant and committed team down there Well done to all involved

Hello gents Im doing a little research for an American mate , who recently purchased the ID and bunch of part that remained to P40K NZ3056
NZ3056 P-40K-15 21702 42-10318 - Assembled by No.1 Aircraft Depot, Hobsonville and BoC at Hobsonville on 28 January 1943. Coded "7". To No.14 Squadron. Crash landed on beach at Guadalcanal at 1345 hours on 16 June 1943 after engine failure. Repaired and returned to service. To No.4 OTU, Ohakea by September 1944. Crashed half a mile from the end of the runway at Ohakea during a test flight on 19 May 1945. Written off books at Ohakea on 31 May 1945. I would love to hear from anyone that has Log book entries of this particular aircraft and men who may have flown her, to try shed some detailed light on her service history .
THe remains and ID having been in storage with Charles Darby for a number of years.
Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen pics of both Ex RNZAF aircraft, a Pv1 in New Britain and one F4U on Bouganville, surely the RNZAF would be able to get a team up to get them out and SAVE them from the scrapper and rot of the jungle

Was up there during the Cyclone. Man did Pam tear the place up. Found a couple wrecked Corsairs up on the reefs around turtle bay, including the rear end of a TBF Avneger in 3 meters. The B17 wreck short of the main airport runway was banged up pretty badly with a number of trees falling on her. Every time I see pics of the site there is less of that wreck due to the Chinese scrappers in town taking it away bit by bit. The Coolidge was a fantastic wreck and even got a nicee parachute flare off her still with the chute inside.

I remember Don Subritsky. telling me of a Auckland Uni that had a SBD buried on their property, they were gifted out to many tech departments so would imagine burring a chopped up one would have been no small task for them. Wonder what sitting under ground these day I do have a forward cockpit canopy frame from a SBD but she came out of the islands.

When you put it like that certainly dose sound better, as much I love seeing a airworthy corsair doing her whistling death dive on the crowds, you do strike a good point she will be in NZ for the rest of her days.

this obviously has strong ties to NZ and she belongs there. would be great see her back downunder, but I think it would be even better to see her flying. RNZAF doesn't have the money for this kind of deal sadly.

Good luck in trying to get anything off Ken Jacobs, he seem content to keep everything hush hush. Do you have a Wirrway project here in NZ ??
