Can I ask as why the P40s RNZAF serial was painted as NZ3000 or has this already been covered?? Did we even operate a with that Serial number?? I thought it started at NZ3001 Other than that great representation of RNZAF P40, a great tribute to the men who flew them in combat and the tireless lads who serviced them in less than ideal conditoins.

Great story Its sad to him still beating himself up like that all these years later about an accident that in no way was his fault. Sadly many of that great generation have taken their bad dreams to their graves. I have heard about 1042 long ago, the fuse must still be up there. Its not like the rnzaf had iroquois back then to go pick her out of there.

I would love to post a pic of mine but Im not back in the country until the of the year. The one I set aside for the local ATC has stopped any progress due to the kids loosing interest. Once back I will drop in a get a little work done and hopefully get it up and going as a flight sim for them., maybe that will spark a few aviation minded kids to take an interest. I can only hope that my MkII will one day look as good as Pete's Well done mate

Oh dear She has gone down hill badly in recent years I photographed it in ยด1999/2000 and even tracked down Jacobs politely introduced my self and asked if he was willing to part with it, he said flat out NO and closed the door on me.
So no room for negotiation on this one, someone would have to go in with a heavy truck and remove it from its current location to save it, then being branded a criminal.
He also has loads of Vampire stuff which I under stand is in a better indoor location in Auckland. Sadly I think this old girl is doomed to rot into the ground where she is. And I thought this only happened in PNG
RIP NZ2539

Thank you John Smith, what foresight. Back onto Rumours - Dose anyone have any info on a SBD that was buried on one of the collage grounds in Auckland area, after they had finnished with it post war using her in tech courses, I know that some one approached the Subritzky family about it but then lost touch with them. Any takers???

No I've seen pics of the woodhill Hudson taken in the 70's very smashed up just a complete tail and bit of wings everywhere. Someone pulled out the Hudson and sold it on TM ? that's a bit rough, aything for a quick buck aye. Yes I have sat in what's left of that once nice Avenger, (WHAT A SHAME )shortly after I visited Grahame Orphan ran some pictures I took in CWD, Jacobs then attempted to put a shelter but as I see to this day he still hasn't finished.......or is just a barrier to stop some guys coming in with a truck and saving it

David D have you tracked down any Ex RNZAF crash sites up there ?? Have spoken with Ewan Stevenson and he said its a Jap Mini sub scuttled by Ozzy troops at the end of the war. If anyones headed back there please bring me back a nice complete Zero Dave also the tank you talk about were on a Jap Maru that grounded on the reef in 42 so she dumped the 2 tanks over board to re float. I dont think they have the guns in them.... I think Regards Hamish
