Great photos, I hope ALM is ok. Nice to see the D.VIII replica off to the side there, I encountered that in a shed at Omaka on one of my first visits there. Would that be the second D.Va? It's great to see so many TVAL machines there. That is Kermit Weeks DVa built here I believe .

I'm sure Tauranga would like one also . If they get one I'd hope they keep it inside. The environment there (being so close to the sea) isn't good for long term preservation of aircraft. I was there a few days ago and the sabre is looking a bit tatty as it the Dove(IIRC) You obviously did not see them when they arrived .

I guess MOTAT will get one. What about Te Papa? Te Papa ? Whilst I would rather see one go there , than be scrapped , surely there would be more deserving places ? Wigram ( the currant one is really only a mock up ) , Ashburton , Ferrymead , Omaka , one back home to Australia, Historic flight ( you never know ) , maybe then TePapa ;D I'm sure Tauranga would like one also .

Can the RNZAF keep one or two Skyhawks in flyable condition for historic reasons or do all have to be rendered unflyable?? I suspect the ones that will be retained by the RNZAF will be kept intact and won't have their spars cut. Last year there was talk of getting a T-bird flying as part of Ohakea's Historic Flight but I suspect the state of the Government books and pressure on the Air Force's budgets won't allow that to happen now. But hopefully those at Ohakea put their hands up for a couple of airframes for the future Museum/Visitor Centre there. They should also grab as many spares and support equipment as they can... I believe there are no spare airworthy canopies for the TBirds .

In 07 I emailed the then opposition to ask if there were any plans to get the fighter wing back up and running. I wanted to know before I voted, it took 3 emails before I got a straight answer from Mapp. Just reading the nonsense in the LAV thread reminded me of that. I personally think welfare is killing NZ, you get on it and it depletes the avaliable funds and then creates a reciprocating problem as people become dependant on it and the economy suffers due to the drainage, if that makes sense? Welfare , what like the hand outs to the finance companies and the likes of Annabel Fay and the Kiwi fruit industry ? First role of govt....... defence. Sheesh.

Having been down to Masterton last year , will there be anything new ? With delivery of a Bentley rotary to that Snipe in the States are we likely to see anything Bentley powered ?

At least John Key is been up front and honest about this. I think that is the sort of guy he is , let us hope he follows through and puts an end to this sorry saga . Offer all the bigger museums the chance of have a Skyhawk and a Macchi for free as long as they collect them for themselves , give the Aussies one , and stop this waste of taxpayers money and political problem for our Airforce .

From experience , we were weighed and positioned in the aircraft , the pilot then request us the sit as far forward as possible . On the last occasion as a spectator I noticed that those jumping were weighed , as I expect will happen this weekend also . To me the key word in that announcement is "confirming" . Clearly it is a factor under consideration , and shouldn't that be 50%?

Some where I read an eye witness stated the aircraft took off and climbed at an unusual attitude . Was ZK-EUD also a top dresser in an earlier life ?

I seem to recall talking to a veteran who said they trouble with either or , or both the Anson and Oxford turrets . Might have had somrthing to do with tolerences and a higher temperature range . I am sure they all had to have their perspex replaced .

I would like to have been standing where you were for that last picture ! The next morning we set out for home , calling in on Palmy to see the Spitfire which was there for a while about the middle of the day , which was an added bonus . At a guess there were more people visited the Spitfire than were at the airshow . While there I noticed , under a carport type structure attached to a building apparently off limits to us , there was the fuselage of what I guess was a Metroliner or Bandirante . It was painted gold . Does anyone know anything about this ?

Absolutely fabulous day , the one disappointing thing which was a bonus for all those who did attend , was the fact that the audience was relatively small . I have been to many airshows both here and in the UK , there have been very few which have been as good as this one . The ambience was relaxed , the weather great , there were aircraft in the air which as little as five years ago were just wishes to enthusiasts . The aircaft were parked about an arms length from the crowd line . I was just amazed at the BE2s , how quite they were and how they seemed to claw at the air to stay aloft . Three SE5As and the FE2 , Albatross and Fokker DVII . The paper streamer cutting Tigers and Stampe . I saw a lovely scene , one of the aircraft landed and taxied back to it's place on the crowd line . A small boy standing against his father's legs asked a question of the pilot as he was getting down from the cockpit , the pilot immediately responded and walked straight over to this child to talk and answer all the questions , I imagine this kid will remember this for the rest of his life . To all those who missed this show , you missed a magic day for anyone who loves old aeroplanes . To all those who helped in putting on the airshow , many, many thanks it was brilliant .

Passed this after Easter on my return from Wanaka . There appears to be a large bank of spoil being deposited between the airfield and SH 1 which will prevent viewing from that side .

I think it was Russian and was either a prototype contempory of the Il 2 Stormovich or a prototype contender for the replacement for the Il2 ?

I have a feeling there was a second La9 or maybe an La11 in the west under restoration , possibly at Duxford . Does anyone know anything about it ?
