I was going to do the Special Hobby kit of the Oxford as NZ1222 102 as in the kit decals, but in Vol 1 of Warren P Russells book on the RNZAF colour schemes he shows a picture of NZ1222 and says the cowlings are red rather than polished metal suggested by the manufacturers.
I don't think the cowlings are polished they look dull on the photo but does anyone know the colour? The kit decals for NZ1222 are wrong as they show the serial to be dark grey and the photo clearly shows them to be white.
Thanks for looking.

This has been my mission since 1999 so I'd agree with the fabulous list, but add, the Aeroclub DH.60M and DH82 are still available, the Flashback Miles Magister makes a passable Miles Hawk and the Aeroclub Demon about to be launched looked fabulous at Telford this year. Both types of rear gun position are included so a Hind is very do-able.
Going back to the NZPAF days, there is the Smer Avro 505K, Roden do a DH4, DH9 and F2B, The Aeroclub Grebe is still available 2nd Hand. Roden are also supposed to be doing a passenger version of the DH9.
There is a Resin Sunderland Mkv as well but at over £250 I've had to pass.

Sorry guys, I lied about the lack of resin, there is quite a nice selection but it was hiding in the corner of my box.

I picked one up at Telford on Saturday. looks good in the box, but so did the Classic Airframes Anson...
It has the above noted RNZAF machines and a reasonable amount of brass etch, and vinyl masks but no resin. I'm starting it after finishing Irving Smith's BoB Hurricane.

Just a heads up, but this comes with New Zealand markings for a vehicle based in Italy in 1945. Pricey in the UK though at almost £20.

30sqnatc:
I had the same issues, but I was doing a model making demonstration at a local Help For Heroes show, so I had about 10 straight hours of filling and sanding. Talked to lots of people about how they built kits as kids but had since grown up!
Thanks for the kind comments folks.

I finished my Airfix 1/48th Canberra as NZ6151 with the help of the A2Zee T.13 conversion. In truth I could easily have used the kit parts for most of it but the Airfix 'goldfish bow' is way to shallow and the whole panel it lives in is too flat. Thanks for looking The nose pitot is crooked in the photos but I've fixed that.

From my research I believe that the first two aircraft serialled H1557 and H1558 were part of production block built by the British and Colonial Aircraft Company at its own factory in Filton.
Aircraft in this batch were delivered in the standard RAF colour scheme of PC10 or khaki dope upper surfaces and undersides in varnished unbleached linen and the forward fuselage was in Battleship Grey.
Of course you guys are much closer to the evidence than I am. I have been unable to find a photo of either of these aircraft. However the build and delivery date pre-dates the move to silver dope finish for RAF use.
6856-7 and 7120-22 were in the later silver/ battleship grey scheme and had the later larger tail surfaces.
Hopefully a photo will surface.

What a great collection! The DH89 is one of my favourite aircraft, I was lucky enough to have a couple of flights in one, 25 years apart!!

Just a little extra information, which I hope is of some use.
The use of Roman Numerals for aircraft designation ended in the RAF post WWII when arabic numerals were adopted. Only types still in service were redesignated, e.g. Spitfire Mk XIX became Spitfire Mk 19.
William Mart and Gray Stenborg both used EN620 coded DL M to claim kills. Mart shared a Bf 109 with others include Stenborg whilst flying EN620 and Stenborg claimed a BF 109G in her a few days later.
EN620 was from the earlier batch of MK XIIs converted from MK Vs and retaining the non retractable tail wheel. All EN serials Mk XIIs were so equipped. The second, MB serialled, batch were converted from Mk VIIIs and had retractable tail wheels.

Newcastle on the 10th July. I won't be at Elsecar until really late if at all.
I'd like to do a red Harvard but there are so many real schemes to do first.
Thanks again for the interest.

Thanks for the kind comments chaps.
Anthony, The collection stands at 48 1/48th scale machines from the Avro504K to the SH2-F. Some of them are getting an outing next month at a model show, so I'll take some pictures and post them.
McFly thanks for the brilliant photos,a similar one of the three Harvards is in a book I have and the main reference for the model. The red machine is interesting; are you sure it is red and not an effect of the WWII vintage orthochromatic film?

My latest attempt is the old Monogram AT-6 with the optional Harvard canopy. I had one on stock and used it rather than the hard to fine Occidental Harvard. I enjoyed making it even though it must be at least a 30 year old moulding. NZ927 flew with the Advanced Training Squadron of 2 SFTS at Woodbourne from May 1941 but was used as an ground instructional airframe (INST44) after a heavy landing at Blenheim later the same year.

They is an implication Britmodeller that a 1/48th scale one may follow. Fingers crossed.
