Just to echo all the comments, that is just fabulous. Are you sure it isn't a picture of the real thing!!!

This is my latest RNZAF model, NZ1082 when she was servinmg with 4 Squadron TAF at Taieri. The kit set is the ancient Monogram SNJ very slightly modified. the decals are the excellent Ventura set design for the TAF Mustangs. Thanks for looking.

Lovely work, I especially like the wear and tear on the floor board. I overdid the same thing on my 1/48th version and was never happy with it. Yours looks spot on.

I got one at Telford last year and it is absolutely fabulous. The photos do not do the castings justice.
I plan do do mine as a 14 Squadron machine. Does the one one hanging in the atrium at Wigram have the FB9 intake?

This is my attempt at the new Special Hobby kit. The kit serials are dark grey so had to be replaced and the cowlings are not polished metal as the instructions suggest. On advice and using Warren P Russells vol 1 I went for red. I have another one to build, probably as NZ251 in overall silver and with a turret. Thanks for looking.

There is a great clear photo of Smiths machine on page 105 of Ospreys Hurricane Aces 1939 -40 which shows the kit markings to be accurate. The spacing of the D and Z is unusal but correct.
The companion volume Hurricane Aces 1941 -45 shows Smiths' later machine, as both a profile and a photo( pag 17), in overall Night coded DZ D with a white/silver Fern leaf and the letters N Z intertwined on the lower cowling. I did that machine a few years ago for the 60th Anniversary display at Telford.

Glad it is in the right place, I should have said it is 1/48th scale and comes with the engine detail and etched seat belts etc. It also has six sets of markings. It is £30 in the UK but the Hasegawa Hurricane will be that by the time they re-issue it.

This is the new Italeri Hurricane MkIa straight from the box in the markings of P/O(later Group Captain) Irving S Smith of 151 Squadron. Smith, used this machine to destroy an He111 on the night od 2nd October 1940. Note the tiki emblem by the side Roundel. i wasn't sure if this is the right place to post it given it is a New Zealand pilot but an RAF plane. please feel free to move it if it is in the wrong section.

Thanks for the photo and the info, I'm tempted by the very shiny '20. I found out the following:
Four aircraft; NZ2402, 03, 20 and 23, were retained for a short while as target tugs supplementing the Avengers with 42 Squadron at Ohakea. A rigid pylon was attached to the starboard side and painted in Red and White stripes.
I wonder if anyone has a photo of the position of the pylon?
Thanks again for taking the time to post.

Thanks, I knew that 42 had used a couple as target tugs, but I was unaware that either 75 or 14 Squadrons had used them.

Very nice collection. Only a couple more RNZAF squadrons to go to complete the set. No. 75 Squadron, No. 42 Squadron and I think No. 14 Squadron all used the Mustang at different times too. Got any photos I could use? I aways have time to build a Mustang.

Nice work! All four TAF Squadrons represented. Did the Otago Squadron not use checkers on the roundel boards then? I've not seen the 'chevron' version in photos before. Only to add that I'm saving my 4 Squadron Checkers for a Harvard, probably NZ1082.

I've just finished a Tamiya F-51 as a 1 Squaddron TAF machine using the excellent Ventura decals. This one completes my line up of the Squadrons All except the Otago machine, which is Hasegawa, are Tamiya, All the decals are Ventura. Thanks for looking.
