I gave the last departure from Auckland it's taxi instructions... quite sad really.

yeah... I've been waiting to take one of these flights when the time permits, and take the fandamily over to visit the in-laws at Ohope...a great service that actually fits in surprisingly well with the other traffic at NZAA... they only appear to get the odd hold or vectors out of the way.

Don't even get me started on "Airways Lite"... peanuts and cola might work for budget airlines but it has no place in safety!

The MXS-RH is basically a single seat MX2... the -RH refers to the "Rob Holland" modified tail. I think it has more deflection in elevator and rudder as well as larger control surfaces. Along with the single seat layout with the centre of mass further forward than in the MX2 enables the aircraft to tumble easier and longer.

Sure was an interesting afternoon at work! You could be onto something there, Evan! And noooby, visual separation works a treat when you are in visual range.. but it's a little difficult once you get outside of the vicinity of a tower.... just ask Great Barrier Airlines and Island Air... they were uneffected as they just carried on VFR. For once the shoe was on the other foot as both of their Islanders taxied past 2 ATRs at Auckland and departed on time!

Actually from an operational perspective PornStar flight deck crews are pretty reliable... they seem to operate the A320 in a predictable and fairly uniform manner (i.e times to pushback and taxi, time to roll from takeoff clearance, runway exit points, etc) and are in fact way better than AirNZ jets, with Air Nelson having the widest operating expectations (particularly in approach speed!!)... what seems to let PornStar down is their (lack of) customer service and support (check in, baggage, communication, etc)... but I guess that's a case of "getting what you pay for".

It took nearly 5 years to complete the ZKMAD accident report and it didn't say anything outside the theory that we provided them within days of the accident. Moral: don't hold your breath!

The easiest application to use is Google's Picasa... it's free... it interfaces directly with Google Photos... All you need is a google account (again free) which if you use any of Googles other websites (YouTube, GMail, Google+, etc) then you probably already have a G Account. The software you download (Picasa) organises your photos nicely and easily allows you to crop, adjust colour, reduce resolution, Export, and upload to Google... from there you can share publicly or privately or by URL. Try it, you'll like click here to Get Picasa

You could always check out the NZ Aerobatic Club's website, I know the webmaster! There's a Gallery. This year we also had live scoring... where in the past the first question a pilot would get asked on landing was "So how did tht go?" has now been replaced with "So why did you score that zero!" :-D

Woody99, the finals monitor is still there and used. Ensures that the aircraft are lined up on 05R/23L instead of the former temporary RWY Taxiway Alpha... which is why the TOMAS/KAURI requirement disappears at night.

No... these balloons are all at around 65,000ft and would only be of concern to Concorde or the U2, neither of which have been seen in these parts for a couple of years... most commercial jet aircraft operate between 25,000ft and 40,000ft with some flash busjets getting into the higher 40-49,000ft range... the real worry is when they come down, and they do! Apparently their descent rate can be slowed but not stopped, and the 12kg (or was it 25kg?) instrument package could do some significant damage to an aircraft! I think "big sky" theory is employed here!!
