Excellent X-Ray Charlie (Jack's 'coupe) is a regular at the Walsh each January, as Jack returns from Hong Kong every year to instruct. Many of us workers and students at the Walsh have had the pleasure of flying this unique aircraft, and some (me included) have a gained ratings.

Yeh...mine turned up in the mail yesterday... Fantastic footage....mixing and a couple of the facts left a little to be desired... They had audio of Doug's MX2 (I think) accompanying Jurgis in his Juka and referred to the MX2 as an MXT...and had Yoshi flying the Yak50 when in fact he was in the Su29.
But overall a good record of the show...and who knew we had another Astronaut there???

Do you welcome non-pilot enthusiasts into the tower too? Can be arranged...obviously easier with an airport id/pilots' licence (security wise)...but a prior phonecall will usually get the wheels turning... PM if interested.

Job...you call it a job?? It's a pass time! For an aviation enthusiast to sit in a room with the best view on the airfield, watch aeroplanes all day, and put your 10c worth in...AND get paid for it...that aint no job!!! Mind you now that Hamilton has turned into a mad house (traffic wise) I do wonder sometimes!! Happy to answer any questions anyone has...though this thread may not be the appropriate place?? Better still pilots are welcomed in most (all?) ATC facilities, certainly in Hamilton...we may just be a little busy to talk!!

What's your name? Mike Slack
Where are you from? Currently living in Hamilton
How old are you? 40 something
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... All thing aviation interest me...currently well immersed in aerobatics and the intricacies of competition aerobatics. Own a share in ZK-MAD and even though the monoplanes seem to be taking over, I think it'll be a long time before I out grow the Pitts (if ever!). There's just something about a Pitts that plastic and carbon fibre will never match!
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? Was always keen on aeroplanes from a young age...while my friends at school were into cars & motorbikes etc I worked after school, weekends and holidays to pay for flying lessons...went solo a week after my 16th birthday and gained my PPL a month or so after my 17th birthday. Actually I was into cars and bikes too, but aviation was always the priority. Took a couple of years off flying when a mortgage came along, but got back into it after I bailed out of the computing industry in favor of Air Traffic Control. Am a currently a Senior Air Traffic Controller at Hamilton Tower.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? Member of NZ Warbirds, NZ Aerobatic Club, EAA and IAC, NZALPA
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) No not really...although did make a few models as a kid and now enjoy helping my 10 yr old with his.
What are your favourite aviation books? Don't do a lot of reading (unless you include the internet!!) Remember reading Reach for the Sky (Wilbur Smith) about 10 times at school More recently have read cover to cover Bill Thomas' Fly for Fun, and Fly for Fun to Win (not that it helps too much!!)
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? Top Gun BAT21 Cloud Dancer (even though it's pretty corny!) Top Gear ('cos they sometimes race planes v cars, and Jeremy Clarkson's got a Lightning in his front yard!)
Do you frequent other aviation forums? pPrune, but that seems to have gone downhill in the last year or so...too many just want to put everyone else down...I'm not a great fan of anonymous forums...believe you should say what you mean/feel and not be afraid to stand up and be counted.
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? Not really...seems pretty civil so far!

Hey I saw that too. Apparently it was a very good looking talented young pilot in a PURPLE Giles. I believe that it was a display for his new sponsors “Mazda” (Zoom Zoom). Was it any good? Good looking? Young?? Talented...well you can have that one! I remember seeing an airshow on the waterfront must have been in the early '90s....'twas a bl00dy long display line!!!
