My turn! I got to see it Tuesday night but I may have watched this with different feelings to others.
My Dad graduated Royal School of Music in 1940 and went into the Navy once he turned 18. Too late for Dunkirk but he saw 18 months of Russian convoys on Battleships, Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Nelson, KGV and others and wasn't allowed to leave the RN until after Queen Lizzies coronation.
He said very very little about his time in the RN. He spoke about the weather and storms in the North Sea. He spoke once about the sound of the Stuka - and if what was portrayed in the movie was accurate, I understand why it only came up once. He spoke about losing ships - but never losing men. Even then he said little. (eg. I didn't know that he was involved in the heavy-water raids in Norway until after he had passed).
I'm a big softy - I found parts of the movie 'difficult', in particular the burning sea. I know he saw more than anyone should have to see. Yes the movie was a reasonable movie and we all turned a blind-eye to much of inaccuracies... still enjoyable.

He's the same guy who shut down a heli op in Stratford. They are taking CAA to court over it. I think there's some serious dodging going on here...

The photo used in the NZ Herald was a "A microlight similar to this one crashed in Otago yesterday. Photo / File"
I haven't seen any confirmed statements yet.

I admit that I've spoiled myself... after flying in for the 50th from Stratford 30 years ago, I have shouted myself a flight into the Base on the Convair from AKL. No parking... riding... just a drive to Aucks. 4 weeks to go Pete

Hi all It's 30 years since I started my license and Stratford... I know it's a couple of weeks away but is anyone here looking at heading down for the day from Hamilton / Te Kowhai by air (or closer than 100Km from Hamilton since SD is 270Km from me)? Happy to share gas / cost etc. I have accommodation if needed so to and return dates are flexible (and I'm sure my 88yo Mum would be happy to see me ) Cheers Pete 0276-272363

We've discussed before how Wellington - of all places - seems to have a single line because when it is interrupted the whole city goes out. And Auckland used to be the same, remember about ten years ago when someone accidentally chopped the line and coffee shops could not serve lattes for days? Ah... the great over-heating cables incident... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Auckland_power_crisis

I see this as pest control! www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/87077210/laser-light-points-to-jail-for-christchurch-man-tane-hemopoA Christchurch man who endangered passenger aircraft with a laser pointer has been jailed for 10 weeks. Tane Hemopo, 39, was originally charged with recklessly shining a laser light at a passenger plane, and the airport control tower, but pleaded guilty to the two new charges of causing unnecessary danger to the people aboard a Virgin Airlines passenger plane and a New Zealand Post Metroliner. Judge Tom Gilbert said at 12.30am on April 5, Hemopo was near the Sign of the Kiwi on Summit Rd. He pointed the high powered laser at a plane that was coming in to land at Christchurch Airport. More on Stuff... It appears this outstanding had a rap sheet "a couple of pages long, but nothing like this on it" Pete

ZK-EAB made (I've been advised) it's last commercial flight in NZ. EAB was flying over the weekend (13-14th) and from what was the original plan, it was going to be the last one flying. Apologies - and from my source who admits he got it wrong!!!

Hi team. An easy one for those that know!
My father-in-law has passed away and I'm trying to write the eulogy... and he spent 5 years (1952-57) as an ACR/ASST. What does that mean??? Thanks a heap, Pete
btw. He was Ernie Sands, who spent 24 years at Fieldair in Pamly Nth - he left us last Wednesday.

Fantastic news... the following thanks to Mr www.stuff... "A couple who had been missing in a light plane that hit poor weather have been found alive and well. Stratford Aero Club president Nick Furmage confirmed the missing couple are being flown to Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth. Furmage said they were found on Monday. They were able to walk and did not appear to be suffering serious injury, he said. "
