HARS also has regular Tarmac Days when selected aircraft from their collection have engine runs, conduct currency flying or practice displays before participating in airshow events.


All subject to local Covid restrictions in force at time event is planned or takes place.

RAAF is copping a bit of negative 'flak' on their FB page about where there are and where there are NOT Australia Day Flypasts happening today. Quite a few people from Adelaide, Brisbane and Tasmania posting about lack of flypasts - those from Adelaide and Brisbane particularly vocal given proximity of major RAAF bases.

RAAF program is:

HARS have announced that weather permitting they will be launching a number of aircraft for a stream flypast up the coast, over Wollongong and back to Albion Park:

Subject to conditions aircraft will be a:
· AP3C Lockheed Orion, the former RAAF maritime patrol and submarine hunter;
· Catalina, a legendary “Black Cat” flying boat painted in World War 2 colours;
· Douglas C-47/DC-3, one of almost 16,000 built for multi-role transport during WW2;
· Caribou, a short field RAAF transport and Vietnam veteran aircraft;
· P51 Mustang* fighter from WW2 and Korea conflicts;
· Bell 47 helicopter*, of the type used to start the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service;
· UH-1B Huey Iroquois helicopter, now part of the HARS Navy Heritage Flight.

Meticulously maintained by volunteers at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) the aircraft will take off from Shellharbour Airport from 4.30 pm and proceed inland to Bald Hill and the Sea Cliff bridge area then fly back south along the coast to arrive at Wollongong Harbour from 5.15 pm.

After orbiting the Australia Day activities at Wollongong Harbour the aircraft will return to HARS Aviation Museum.

Also in Sydney HMAS Adelaide was to host the formal ceremony at Circular Quay and obviously she's off to Tonga and HMAS Parramatta has taken that tasking as a much smaller boat. 😀

Bit surprised the Rhino's or Growlers aren't flying in Qld. Could be off at Red Flag possibly.

(Looking forward to WDU 2022, expect given the disappointment of WDU 2020 having to be cancelled "all stops out" will be the order for 2022. Already have my accommodation booked at my usual place and now just waiting for tickets to go on sale.)

Announcement by Warbirds Over Scone regarding their airshow on 26-27 March 2022.

FOUR P-40s in formation, including the Judy Pay Merlin engine P-40F, ex-Col Pay P-40, Doug Hamilton's P-40 amd Al Arthur's P-40.

To consider that with the two nearing completion at Precision down in Wangaratta, could potentially have a formation of six in the next year or so. (Hope the C&M scheme for the RAAF one is working out okay Ando.)

I too hope things open up across the Tasman for freer travel some stage this year.
