Someone in the crowd mentioned this was a Harvard? Didn't look or sound like one to me. ;D

She was gone by the time I returned up the harbour around 3. You didn't happen to get any pics of a large fast-moving pink sailing catamaran did you? She left about 2:30 pm and was back at the Naval Base by 3:00 pm. Does it look like Sundreamer? I got a couple of shots of it on 23 January at 17:20 passing North Head. I saw it on Monday but it was too far away for my lens to get a decent shot. Cheers

I thought I would add this to record some pics around Auckland during the week end celebrations. Early in the afternoon I got this shot of Team NZ doing some sailing. I got quite a few shots of the fireworks and these two are a sample. A pic of the city before going home. Cheers and have a great week end. Colin

Some great photos there. You do lead an "executive style" of life kiwithrottlejockey(cups of coffee, reading newspaper). Well why not when the work is done! ;D I used to love the mornings when coming off shift at 7:00 am in summer when we watched the sun rise before going home. Finishing the week on a Friday morning and a long week end before going back to work at 3:00 pm on a Monday. Ah but then it was hard to sleep during the day when on night shift. I did get to see the family though and that was a blessing. My sunset shot from last night while waiting for the fireworks, taken looking across from Devonport. Colin

And another of the Volendam not sure of the name of the other ship berthed with her though? Pic taken on 15-01-09, Wellington. The other ship is the Millenium. Thanks for posting Marcus and nice shots too.

Nice shots Craig. Wellington has some great vantage points Joe. I will keep an eye on Grabaseat for some bargain flights for ship and plane spotting. This one went out on Saturday and will be in Lyttleton tomorrow morning. Diamond Princess coming down the harbour with the museum and Mt Eden in the back ground. The sun started to break through the cloud as she heads around North Head in to the Rangitoto Channel bound for Tauranga. Cheers

Interesting that your lens makes the waterworks in the background there look as if it's only just over the fence - it must be a couple of miles away at least in actuality. Yes looking at the exif info the lens was at 280mm and on a DX camera with 1.5x that is 420mm in 35mm terms. I also cropped a bit so that helps.

I heard the sound of a jet (ZK-SSU) at around 5:00 this afternoon so grabbed camera and high tailed it to Ardmore for its return and hoped it wasn't going to Masterton. At 5:47 I got this shot as it came in for a touch and go and then it came back and landed so I got more shots for my library. It does look nice in the evening light with its new paint job. Cheers

Oh no what bad luck. I watched it out my window as it headed south after taking off from Ardmore. Good to hear the occupants are okay.
