I'm glad you made it Errol, no doubt we'll find each other as always! I lone rangered it today and found a good spot at the NZDF end of the line and wound up pretty much camping there, so apologies for not wandering around enough to run into anyone! Pics to come Was also planning to bring one of my kids tomorrow but that looks off now.

Speaking of the B-52, the US Embassy has kindly put up the flight plan: Which they evidently changed Sucks for the many people in Wellington and the Hutt who turned out to see it though.

Liked! The 2013 show with the Mosquito and jet formations, the 2001 show with the airfield attack by RNZAF A-4's and any time Keith Skilling displayed the Corsair are all among many highlights for me. What I'd really like to see this year won't happen, but I'll settle for more WW2 and jet warbirds

Thanks anyway Zac. I'm sure I can make a spinner, but a prop is beyond me. Can you part with one Mumbles? No worries. PM me your address and I'll send you a couple.

I have a bunch of 1/72 Mustang props, half a dozen or so that would work with a C and I'm sure I can find a matching spinner and backplate. I'll grab a selection and put up a photo after breakfast. Was just going to say similar. I have several 1/72 mustang props (and sets of underwing stores), but no spinners

Haven't seen the Falcons with the 40's before. Is that new? Big step if it is combining civil and military formations. Military has a cannipsion fit mostly about that The Red Checkers did a similar formation with Roaring 40's Harvards at the 2009 Whenuapai Open Day I think. I've got photos somewhere. Going even further back there was a 14 Sqn formation with a Macchi and P-40 ZK-RMH at Wings over Wairarapa in 1999.

And the five people who had arrived on the island in that helicopter apparently escaped with their lives, unlike 13 others, sadly. I don't know if you've been there, but at the time of my visit in 2006 the helicopter landing area was not too far from the wharf and mine ruins, and a good distance from the crater itself. If that's still the location and the blast was sufficient to move the helicopter I'd speculate it was considerably worse closer in.

Sounds like they are to scared to go out and rescue who's left. Another pike river job. Yes I'm sure you know better than the people on the ground in an extremely hazardous environment. . .

The final few seconds however shows a Tomcat in flight. Are there any Tomcats flying today or would it most likely be CGI? The only airworthy Tomcats now are operated by the Iranian air force. No US tomcat has flown since they retired them in 2006, so my money is on CGI. This hints that F-14's will be involved in the movie in some way though. The fuselage marking is slightly reminiscent of the symbol on the Iranian flag, and it's an F-14A as still operated by them rather than a B or a D (although the latter is probably coincidence). . . theaviationist.com/2018/12/18/tom-cruise-with-f-14-tomcat-on-snowy-set-in-tahoe-top-gun-escape-scene-filmed/

I think you have misinterpreted OJ's point, Will, and I think his point is valid. It isn't, it's rose tinted survivorship bias.

If NZ got F4s would/could they have better survived the H Clark and NZ Treasury razor gang? Ie a purer air defence aircraft. The F-4C was the preferred option I think, but would have been just as multirole in RNZAF service as the A-4, probably more akin to the RAAF use of the F-4 than anything. By 2000 if anything I would think they would be much more expensive to operate and harder to justify than the A-4's

Hi All, Some questions for our Technical Experts on our A4Ks circa early 1980's (before Kahu Upgrades) The A4K's arrived with the wiring/Plumbing for the Bull Pup missile, in 1982, did they still carry them/use them? In this Link borrowed from Wikipedia - nice shot of NZ6206, is it me or have the Greens changed from the original SEA scheme the A4K's arrived in 1970? upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/A-4K_with_75_Sqn_RNZAF_members_1982.JPEGIf so, what Greens were they (I would presume locally sourced paint?) Edit - Where the Wheel wells/Gear doors, still Insignia White at this time? Thanks for any/all help Regards Alan The Bullpup was never purchased/used by the RNZAF to my knowledge. There is an apparent change in the greens and general standard of the paint finish from the factory to those in later service, although this may be an artifact from the colour film in use at the time. I'm not sure which is non-standard, but the latter colours match TO.1.1.4 (standard USAF SEA scheme) to my eye. From the factory one of the greens appears more olive-drab in tone. Gear bays were never anything but white as far as I know. The back of the main-gear bay was covered in a sealant which was a yellow/brown colour though.

As usual on Facebook you've got the moaners saying it should have been spent on teachers etc Usually rooted in ignorance of how budgets work. Both sectors need money, and there will be separate allocations for both - it's not an either or proposition, but try telling the "no money for boys toys" mob that . Which I have already a couple of times today.
